Normally I supply my opinion on anything and everything on the AB - but since this is addressed to - ahem - You Pinko lefties - I am not covered by that demographic, and as such, i am excluded from a response.

I think it's absolutely wrong to have a play group especcially for other nationalities and I can't see how that helps with social intergration, in my eyes, the more varied the group of people you mix with the healthier your social outlook will be.

But this playgroup is exactly the opposite.
It is ENCOURAGING foreign mothers to stick together and NOT speak English or mix with people who can speak English.
As per usual in this country we bend over backwards for the people who have just turned up on the doorstep rather than those who were born here.

The group was 'funded entirely for women from other nationalities'. I'd think it was designed to help those mothers and their children with their language skills.

aah I didn't think of that, if it's essentially a language school with a limit on numbers then it would be understandable but surely they should have explained such a thing to the family. It's hard to get a true picture of the situation from one sided sensationalist journalism.

Sandy, stick a child who can not speak english, in with children who can.
Guess what happens. The speed that a child can learn a new language is amazing.
A Turkish lad started at my kids school last year, in no time at all he was speaking broad Yorkshire.

That's different from our schools Mick. The Polish children in the class do not speak or understand a lot of English and slow the rest of the class down considerably.

I suspect that only someone who would suggest a quick dose of napalm on the school and deportation for any survivors, wouldn't be classed in the catagory.

I agree with Mick. When a few Polish kids started at my sons school I was amazed at quickly the could speak fluent English.
