Does age really matter in a relationship? My partner is 24 years older than me and we have been together for 2 years now and going very well. He doesn't look his age... he looks younger than he is and i look older than i am and when seen together we don't look like there is a huge difference in age.Do people really think age is an issue? And how do other people in relationships with big age gaps cope with the hassle from people?

An older man with a much younger woman typically handles the pressure by smiling a lot...

I hope not because my partner is 16 years younger than me. We don't get hassle because no-one notices.

not really, I suppose people may question the gap and expect the relationship to fail, 2 years is not a long time so I would imagine the comments will lessen as time goes on.

Well i do... from old school "friends" and general local loosers... it doesn't bother him but sometimes it really f**ks me off.... just wondered how other people coped.....
To say there is 24 years difference when my parter got a new job and a work mate met us for the first time he thought there was 15 years difference... we don't look that odd together.. the age doesnt bother me at all i just wondered if hassle was a common thing with age difference relationships...
Well let´s put it like this, when you are 60years old, he will be 84years old. When you are 65 years old, he will be nearly 90,years old.....are you getting the picture.

Now, no big deal, but later....................he has a Pension and he wants you to be included, the Insurance Company will say "You are OK, but not her"

He dies, how will you survive financially?

It can work................but usually hot.

So why ask the question?
Question Author
Because i wanted to know if other people in similar situations got hassle
:)
I doubt it concerns them as much as you think it does, people do make comments, yes, fact of life. once your circle of friends get used to the idea the comments should lessen.

you are probably right its only a hand full of people my friends are fine with it.... and yes they probably aren't as bothered as i think.... im just a bit paranoid i think, used to get it alot but now its hardly nothing... i just wondered what it was like for others :) thanks alll
I think it probably does bother you otherwise why ask. As regards pension, while I agree money is not everything we all need it. Who wants to live on a pittance? As a matter of interest are you married to your partner?

We live on practically nothing now.. literally..... and we cope... i don't care how much i've got if i've got him..... i'll cope... and no not at the moment we aren't but we hope to get married, why you ask?
My sister in law was married to a man 20 years older than she is, they had a wonderful marriage and had three lovely children. Sadly he died 10 years ago now she lives alone in the family home. Her children and grandchildren visit her often and make her part of their lives. I don't think she will ever marry again. She is fulfilled and keeps herself busy helping her family, her sisters and brothers visit when they can. I don't know how old you are dennis4 but enjoy the time you have and make memories now.

&& thank you for your answer, im sure we will make the most of it :)
I was brought up to believe that when poverty comes in the door love goes out of the window. My father had a very good pension and brought all of his children up to think about retirement income when we were still in our 20's. We are now benefiting from his wisdom.
