It's something I have always had and my Mum was the same. About the end of march i hang lighter weight curtains downstairs and upstairs and have the winter weight ones dry cleaned and they get put away until the end of September,

Yes Dot, I do have heavier curtains / drapes for the winter season, and lighter more summery design for summer. Gawd changing curtains is a huge task!
Have double glazing and life is too short to make pastry and change curtains
Me too.........it costs a bloody fortune each year having the winter curtains dry-cleaned...the summer ones can be washed.
lol peri !
forget the pastry thread! ;0) x
Do people really do this? Bizarre...

Its a dying breed DOTH, don,t think a lot of them even wash them now, leave up for 3 years then chuck em.
OOh Dot are we showing our age then LOL
No, mine are brown velvet and weigh a ruddy ton, no way am I taking those sods down for whatever reason! They get hoovered occasionally and Fabreezed, that's the best they're getting.
I have to Febreeze mine and have them cleaned at least every 6 months.....else they'd stink of ciggies...................
^ craft... we're talking curtains here not your damn dentures ;-p
Mine would if i smoked in livingroom Craft, but I dont- I'm usually to be found shivering on the kitchen doorstep :-(
I'm the opposite Boo.........the sitting room is the only room I smoke in..
Oh, crafty ...

You shouldn't smoke in the house ... you curtains will pong.

I'm going out with smoker friend again tonight ... another evening standing in a freezing beer garden, no doubt.
ah, they know how to have fun on the south coast. Wrap yourself up in your winter-weight smoky curtains and you'll feel better.
Ya ... the high life, eh, jno !
In our last house, we had 6 pairs of curtains which we used to swap for lighter ones at the end of Spring.

We knocked that on the head when we moved to Blackpool.........the cost of buying new curtains and their summertime equivalents was just too expensive.
OMG No!

We have ivory roller blinds up at most of the windows, plus ivory curtains in all the upstairs bedrooms. Downstairs we have heavy dusky green curtains, but like BOO says those ones are a b*gger to take down & put up again!
