Annoying Newspapers

I was just wondering if anyone else was like me and deliberately read a newspaper even though it's annoying?  There is one particular paper that my dad buys and some of things they write are so smug and righteous that it immediately winds me up; although I do have a good laugh at some of language used in the articles.

Yeah, I used to read the Sun as my wife liked the crosswords - it just used to irritate me so much - went on to the Express as she liked the corsswords in there too. Again, iritated me.

Now read the Eastern Daily Press as it is more local but still has national news in it. Doesn't irritate me as much. Bought the wife a crossword program for her pc!

my wonderfull husband cancelled our daily mail..as he was on an economy drive and ordered the sun instead..which i did not find amusing..anyway since we got the pc we have cancelled all newspapers as we can either see the news on sky and on the bbc site..i walk up the newsagent on a saturday and get the daily mail for the tv pages,,and for his lordship to do the crossword..allthough i am sure i do the crossword as he keeps asking me questions ha ha ...mullein

I read several national newspapers every day. The most hateful by far are the Daily Mail (for its narrowmindedness, bigotry and barefaced lies) and The Guardian (for its smugness, pseudo-liberalism, quasi-hip attitude, poor grammar, self-regarding nature and London-centric attitude). The Sun, on the other hand, is just sordid and dull.

Just curious as to how you can read several papers a day - if I go to London on the train I tend to buy The Times - 2 hour journey and it still won't be read.

I work in the media. Reading newspapers is part and parcel of the trade.
I buy the News of the World (world?! Don't make me laugh) for exactly that reason: comedy.

I was brought up on a diet of the Daily Telegraph.  When I moved out from the parental home into my own home, I chopse to continue getting the Daily Telegraph (even though I am centre-left politically) partly because it is a challenge to read things I disagree with; it helps to sharpen and focus one's own thoughts and arguments in counteracting them.

I have, however, gone native as far as Sundays are concerned - I get the Sunday Telegraph, and I think that it was probably a major factor in converting my views on the EU from being pro-EU and pro-European  to being anti-EU and pro-European.

P.S. On a similar line, I regularly look at the BNP website because I find it fascinating to read the twisted logic and bigotry of their rantings - and it is important to know the enemy.

I really can't stand the daily mail! like you Oneeyevic changed to EDP as none-offensive.

Still must admit to buying news of the world which all friends tell me off for but i always find everyone having a look at some point.

Are there far too many people from Norfolk on this thread - and do Norfolk people really take an interest in news and current events......

All we need know id Norfolk Boy to chip in.....

Of course we take an interest in the News and current affairs Vic.  We are a very cultured lot as you will undoubtedly agree.  I live over the other side of the county from you, near HM the Queen's holiday home.

If I pick up any tabloid newspapers people leave on trains etc. they hold my interest for about 5 minutes.  What a load of rubbish they are.  Good old Eastern Daily Press!

For clarification, the newspaper I was referring to was the Daily Mail (although their Sat TV supplement is v. good) and I agree with all the ealier comments!

I think I like to feel outraged with how far they can actually go sometimes!

Prefer the Evening News to the EDP, but that's what being brought up in the city does to you. ;-)
It would be annoying to most snobs, but it is completely independent and not a right wing conservative like most of the 'one for the rich and posh' newspapers.
