compassion leave?

Hi I live in wales an my anty who lived in scotland has just passed away i will certainly need more than a day off work to attend the funeral because of travel. I was wondering how many days by law am I allowed to have of work?

none as far as im aware -your employer is within their rights to make you take unpaid leave

I dont mind taking unpaid leave ive read through the company handbook and theres nothing in there bout compassion leave or if a family member dies. I do have holidays own to me could i use the three days out them?
Yes you can - you need to talk to whoever it is at work that deals with your leave
You can take holidays (or unpaid leave though if you have spare holidays it would make sense to use them first) of course but it's still at the employers discretion. He's not obliged to give holidays at any particular time anyway but he's certainly not required to allow them with insufficient notice.

Fundamentally this entire area is discretionery to the employer. He has no obligations at all.
