There's been quite a lot of media coverage up here about a little boy (7 years old I think) who has been terrorising a community in Aberdeen, carrying a knife, smoking, drinking etc; much to the "amusement" of the adolescents he hangs out with. His mother's response is to whine that it's not him to fault and he's always getting blamed for everything bla bla bla. I know it's school hols but why, oh why is he allowed to roam the streets at 10/11 o'clock at night unsupervised? What do you think?

It seems to be a way of life to some youngsters these days, and you will find it on most of the estates in big cities. maybe the mother was exactly the same, and does not see what he is doing is wrong?
I haven't heard about that, where in Aberdeen is it?
Question Author
It's in Torry Lakitu.
Go figure
Question Author
You know Torry Lakitu-do you or have you lived there?
I am Aberdonian
Question Author
Oh well you'll know then. Which part of Aberdeen?
Am I from? I grew up in Kincorth, lived in Dyce for 10 years and now I'm living at the beach. You?
Question Author
Kemnay. I used to work in Stoneywood many years ago.
Do you work in Kemmay too, now? I'm working in Dyce, have been for many years, which is OK if I can miss the traffic! LOL
Question Author
No I'm a housewifey now. Where do you work in Dyce. My son works at Sclummberger in Dyce and my daughter at Halliburton down beside the beach.
Oi......Torry is just as bad as other communities in Aberdeen or any other city.

Im pretty sure there are dodgy kids who hang about in every area!

I know what you're saying Mr B but such a young age-is this more common than I think because I haven't led such a sheltered life you know.
Lucky you! I fully intend on winning the Lotto this weekend and becoming a lady of leisure (for a few months anyway).

I'm just across the other side of the airport from your son. The Company I work for used to be a part of Halliburton, but went through a management buy out a couple of years ago.

No, Mr Bounty, just Torry :p
Until Torry was infested with immigrants, it was an excellent place to live - very close community indeed.

Now, every second person is either a Pole or Asian and (without being racist) this has totally destroyed any sense of community.

I remember as a kid, i would go shopping with my mum and gran and they would know practically everyone - nowadays, you dont know anyone and, setting foot in the likes of the local bank, you are confronted with Polish staff and more Polish posters on the walls than English!!

All this adds up to the dissolution of a very friendly place
The 7 year old boy terrorising this community, is he Polish or British?
Question Author
As far as I know local. I don't totally agree with you Mr B-my daughter has a little community of Poles/Latvians etc in a block of flats next to her house in Inverurie and I find them very courteous. They do tend to stick together but don't all ex pats? Where I do agree with you is that there does seem to have been a disintigration in communities in general.
so his mum would rather let him be out of her hair than causing bother at home I presume. If he was at home he wouldnt be blamed for anything, whether he'd done it or not!

Hes 7? OMG, thats appalling, give the mother some parenting skills before the boy ends up in care.

school hols or not, a 7 year old should NOT be roaming the streets at 10/11pm.

Scotgal - living in Torry all my life, i have most definitely noticed that the intigration of immigrants has been a core factor in the spirit of the community disappearing.

Yeah, i have no doubts that they are nice enough, but with Torry going from a place which was near self sufficient to one where the council dumps it's trash in, it's no wonder violence and the like have increased.

Apparently the family is known to the social work dept. and his 10 year old brother is involved in these shenanigans as well. According to the social work "it's a family that's lost control of their children". How mealy-mouthed is that?.The little boy attacked a nine year old girl with a spade I believe- For God's sake my grandson is only 2 years younger and if he so much as lifted his plastic spade to any one there would be hell to pay from my daughter. Well I must go and do some housewifely things but I'll be back at luchtime and look forward to your views on this.
