I've had toothache all weekend so I rang the dentist first thing this morning. They offered me an emergency appointment...in THREE WEEKS time.
Does anyone have any pliers I can borrow?

I live in the sticks and it's the only dentist in the area. There are actually 4 dentists in the firm.....2 (husband and wife) are on holiday and 1 is off sick.
what tooth is it? Whats the reason for the pain? We might be able to give you a temporary remedy.

Chewing gum is very good for filling holes temporarily

It's one of the big back molars at the bottom. There doesn't seem to be any holes in it but there is an ominous lump on the gum next to it. The word abcess is springing to mind.

Oh deep joy.
oh yes, its and abcess (sp). Go to boots and ask for some Hydrogen Peroxide. Its in a brown bottle, its about 1.

Its effin marvellous. Its like a mild acid, but it works wonders. You mix it with water. Kills anything. Excellent stuff. May help.
...its safe for both oral infections and external infections. Amazing stuff

Thanks for that spaced. xxx
Oh , bless you mrs_overall , I know what you are going through as I had it some weeks ago , and I also asked for pliers , and totally considered if I could knock myself out if I ran head first into the wall.
3 weeks though !!!!! Is that with your own dentist , or the NHS Direct emergency one honey . ?
((( hug ))) xxxxxxx
We have an emergency dentist at the hospital where I work. Perhaps there is one at your local hospital. Give it a try.

Awww, ta bigmamma.
It's my own NHS dentist. As I said earlier, it's the only one for miles as I live in a very remote area.

I'll see how I go with the hydrogen peroxide and Mr O's secret stash of brandy before I raid his tool box. xx
That is way too long!!

I would phone around the other dentists and see If I could get treatment quicker.

Disgraceful.
The Hydrogen Peroxide Solution comes in different strengths. Itrs great, but very powerfull so do be careful.

Its worth giving it a try. lets us know xx
Oil of cloves too sweetie , doesn't taste nice but does give some relief on the tooth even though the infection is all in the surrounding gums too. If it's an abcess or generalised spreading infection though , you will need a course of antibiotics first , and so you will need this before 3 weeks !!!

Update.

I was having a moan on the phone to Mr O. He then went to see the works nurse and blagged some antibiotics. He's on his way home now with them. Bless them both.
