cleaning an upholstered chair

Hi everyone,
I've inherited a chair for my lounge. The label says it is made from Polyamid Pile (nylon flock) and can't be washed. It has dark maks on it, particularly the arms and seat area.
It says to use Chem-Dry Stain Extinguisher. I've looked this up and found that they can be quite expensive, (i'm on a tight budget).
Does anyone know of a cheaper way to clean the chair or is it worth paying out for the stain extinguisher?
Has anyone else used it and if so what were the results like?
