Hey, does anyone know how to make a default value in microsoft access that makes the next field equal to the previous entry + 1. For instance, if i had a member number in the first column and i wanted the next one to have the previous member number + 1. Hope that makes sense!
I don't know about Access, but in most spreadsheet programs, assuming the first cell is A1, you would write the formula =sum(A1+1) in the next cell, and then copy that formula into as many of the following cells as you wish.
Assuming you dont want to change it. You can create a field as AutoNumber which adds 1 to the previous column value. It will start at 1 and go from there, so the first one gets 1 the second 2 etc etc. TO do this go to Table Design View and change the Data Type to Auto Number.
Lol, two bobs. Cheers BabBob, i'll try that next time i'm at school in an ICT lesson. And geofbob, Access is a database, not a spreadsheet. Otherwise you would be right, yes.
