fab question though.
well I live in Scotland and our local councils have instructed us not to smoke in our own homes while workmen or council officials are there.Thing is, they cant enforce it, although the workers have every right to leave if you dont comply :-(
It's just what occurs to me first but although it's their place of work, first and foremost it's your domicile. And, (not withstanding false imprisonment) anyone, workmen included, are free to leave if they so wish. They won't get paid, of course, but you won't get the job done either !
The situation would present its self as an opportunity for everyone to grow up a bit I suppose.
i am a smoker but I am used to being a leper and not being able to smoke in public places.I am sure i could refrain from smoking for the duration of their visit. It's the nanny state, put up or shut up after all!
.......... OR ............. May-be if they turn up, ready to work, hammer and nails in hand, but you insist on setting fire to one of Cubas finest, they could perhaps claim from you for their waste of time ! (How is Castro these days anyway?)
cigars?? thats a bit far-fetched! How about amber leaf self-rolling ? I'm a poor student.
What if they light up, as a plumber that came to our house did. He lit a fag with a blow torch while fixing the oil boiler. I hope he rots in the proverbial--but that is another story!
In Scotland you're supposed to refrain from smoking for a couple of hours before workmen are due to arrive, or as Sandy says, they can refuse to carry out the work. Did you also know that you can't even light up in a bus shelter? They have stickers on them with a number to call, if you witness someone flouting the ban.
if someone breaks into your house you must stop smoking as it's now his place of work.
