I have just heard on the new of 2 instances where the people,a child was involved, who were in Scotland, were either beaten or abused.
Now we all know that there is a friendly banter (generally) between the Scots and the English.
I just want folk to know that I am appalled by this and feel physically sick. Those thugs would have beaten anyone up last night because we also have a Yob culture who look for any excuse to cause havoc. They seem to breed everywhere and we ar not unique.

I am sure I speak for all Scots in saying that we are ashamed of their behaviour and we welcome anyone to our country. I hope the victims will be OK.

To make it worse the young boy and his father weren't even English they were Kiwis and the boy had an England shirt on presumibly caught up in world cup fever.
I am 'English' (for want of a better definition in this context!) but have spent much time in Scotland... and plan to move there next year.

I have never encountered any bad feeling towards me and find the Scottish people i have mixed with (you know what i mean... just your 'average' Scottish type!) far friendlier than those in England on the whole!

Some of my older (English) relatives have 'warned' me that there is ill-feeling between the 2 nations... but i since changed their minds... lol...

Thankfully the number of people that are disgusted by this kind of behaviour far outweight the number who are not, and most people will see this as a mindless act of violence by some cretin! Unfortunately cretins are to be found in every town, city and country and occasionally they pop up in the news section on AB!!
I`m absolutely disgusted with what happened in Scotland. I hope that whoever hit these people will be charged with assault. To the first person who posted a comment. Pity there was n`t a seperate "nation" for cretins. Then all of you could live in Cretinland together.
Totally agree Dris, it's disgusting what happened, poor kid!
Oh and admarlow - Those are exactly the kind of racist comments that cause trouble
This story is despicable but it doesn't make me ashamed to be Scottish because only a tiny minority of people are like this. It is not acceptable to hit a child for ANY reason and if you're the type of prat that's going to do this then the football jerseys only an excuse.

I have not yet heard of one Scot that's condoned this behaviour and some people are being too quick to judge a whole country based on one idiots behaviour. As many people have pointed out on this thread, you get @ssholes like this wherever you go.

Taking it out of the context of football - it's not relevant where it happened. Any attack on an individual,of any age ,in any country just because of something they believe in , is not acceptable but is , unfortunately, widespread throughout the world.

I agree but it doesnt help when Blair jumps on the bandwagon and then McConnell. Then they interview someone from some tourist place and he says it will affect English people coming to Scotland.
Its almost like Scotland is being tried by media and politicians.
Everyone I have spoken to is disgusted with what happened and I am so heartened with ALL but one of the comments you have posted.A big huge thank you to you all for your very reasoned responses.

Must admit I did laugh at beejaybee Cretinland - pure class!!!!

i think one problem with football is, to some people it is almost like a religion - given the same gravitas in their lives as god is to a religious zealot - and we all know what trouble religion causes in the world...

it provokes the same fervour on people as religion and makes them think is ok to attack anyone who doesn't support the same 'god' as them.

its just shows how brainwashed and stupid many football fanatics can be.
er Dris *cough*stars*cough*
According to the local paper last night, the little boy involved in this sorry saga has been invited to attend a Rangers football match at Ibrox and to meet some of the players...an Ibrox offical said that he was "Bitterly dissapointed at the behaviou of this so-called fan and if he was traced he would be banned from Ibrox for life." A local buisnessman has also offered a 1000 reward for info leading to this cretin arrest! So a wee bit of a happy ending for the child involed!!
