Here we go again................ Sorry if this sounds rude, but this 'question' is raised so often, in fact every time something like this occurs.

Hi gessoo, this is my feelings just on rapists, that she will never forget and everytime she smells smoke on someone she will be taken back, her life will now have changed forever, her friends are there and they will give strength.

Yes, I want him dead.

I can understand how you feel asciwhite and I am sorry if I sounded blunt, but everytime a vile crime of this sort (rapist, child murder, etc.) we get a question such as yours. I think we all have primitive reactions to these crimes if we are truthful, but just imagine a country where 'lynch mob mentality' took over. When they catch this person he will get a sentence which some of us will feel is not adequate, but at least he will receive a fair trial and punished under the laws of the land.
and at least as citizens of this country we do have a right to challenge the law without fearing grave punishment.

She was not given a chance, nothing, and my heart pounds and races with the thought. As you say, primitive reactions. Was that the rapist aswell? his primitive reaction when he saw a little girl was to rape her? was that a fair thing to do?

Look asciwhite, of course it's a heinous crime and a terrible thing and everyone feels awful for the poor wee mite that she has had to endure that but gessoo is right you can't go around undermining the law because it's there to ensure much bigger things than one case of rape. It is there to ensure that every single person in this land is treated in exactly the same manner. It ensures ( or should) that people are not convicted of things they have not done, and that victims have their perpetrators brought to public trial. If you start vigilante activities then no-one is safe anywhere from anything because people very frequently get things very wrong.

I hope that if they catch him they sentence him appropriately and that this little girl can then start to rebuild her life without people implying that "he's got away with it" because no-one's castrated him, so that she ends up not feeling vindicatded and can't get some degree of closure.Let the legal system deal with this and if you have issues about sentencing then contact the relevant authorities and get things changed properly.

Of course it was not a fair thing to do. It was dreadful. What I was saying is that we all have primitive reactions but if we acted on them this would not be correct. Civilisation means that the vast majority of people live by rules and regulations which may not all be fair but at least can be challenged. We have to accept those rules to enjoy the freedoms that we do.

That cruel creature - I was going to call him an animal but i wouldn't insult animals - lost all rights when he commited this heinous crime, as far as I'm concerned.

I wouldn't lock him away - nor would I have him executed. I'd have him flayed. And before anyone asks, yes, I would do it to him myself.

Right then Asciwhite and Whickerman, supposing me and my vigilante mob think YOU have done it and come and burn YOUR houses down, drag you outside and kick YOU to death or someone you love because we might. I mean we don't need evidence or a trial or a legal system do we? But then we relalise "Oops, we made a mistake, sorry mate it wasn't you."

Where the hell do you go from there?

People can't abdicate their rights because of any crime they have committed because the law is not there to protect them in so much as it's there to protect you and I and everyone else who HASN'T done it.

I am in no way defending the rapist, but supposing, just supposing, he was one of those unfortunate people with terrible mental problems who has now found himself with no medical care or home because of what has happened over recent times, i.e. so called care in the community and the closure of many secure hospitals. This is only an example and obviously I don't know the facts, I am just trying to illustrate how we have to be fully aware of all the facts before we pass judgement.

Changing the subject somewhat, it has been announced that there will be a reward of approx. 30,000 for information leading to his arrest. I find this appalling that people need a financial incentive to disclose this information!

Law is there to ensure much bigger things than one rape case? it is there to ensure every single person in this land is treated in exactly the same manner? since when? some are greater than others and money is vastly protected over life. Rape is traumatising and I doubt she will ever be free now, not properly. Because one day he will be set free as is the law of this land. She will never be truly set free.

I don't want any kids to grow up in a society where hate crimes and torture are a common occurence, where vigilante gangs roam the streets with a list of suspected paedos, where there is a gallows next to the welcome sign when you enter a town, where people freely accept that they are above the law and can dish out any sort of 'justice' they desire.

I want them to grow up feeling safe, where society protects them to the best of it's abilities from people who might hurt them, and where they can grow up understanding that violence is not the solution to your problems.

Catch him, lock him up, and try to help the child rebuild her life.

I also want an answerbank where the same issue is not posted every day, (apologies asciwhite).

But we do have opportunities and the freedom to question our laws. I think some of us should experience living out of the UK. It might open our eyes as the 'law' elsewhere.

Noone is questionning that this crime isn't absolutely dreadful and that this child will probably suffer for life. What is in question is whether or not this person will receive a just punishment. Unfortunately, no legal system in this country will ever be perfect, but it is better than vigilante law.

Hi noxlumos, well, lets see. We could go back to the burning of witches at the stake, I presume thats what you are kind of getting at, with mine and whickermans thoughts. I am not. When I say castration without anaesthetic I mean this with all of my heart and cannot help this. He's killed a part of her that will never be retrieved. A trial and then the death sentence would be fair in this case then. There is now that thing called DNA evidence and they will have this, so the argument of 'we could kill the wrong person' is not arguable. I will watch this case but we will never be able to change the law.
Question Author
Hi supernick, I usually avoid these arguments but this one has broken my heart. You're right about the same questions coming up all the time religion, colour, schooling, pc gone mad. But this is my 1st posting of this nature and this is the news daily. Perhaps the news section should be changed? what to?

Can I just add - if it were my child, I would want to tear the person who did it in half. I really, really would. But we can't base our legal system on knee jerk reactions.

For future children, the best we can do is capture this person and put them away for a very long time, perhaps so that psychogists can interview him and try to get a better understanding of what makes these people tick.

With a better understanding of the pyschological profile of paedophiles, perhaps in future police/social services will be in a better position to recognise the warning signs.

I can say this because it's not my child. If it were mine, like I said before - I have a feeling I would be carrying a flaming torch as well.

Problem is each and every one of us has a different idea of what is fair as a punishment. At least you can post on sites like this without fear!! Law is never static it changes constantly and why do we have elected MPs if not to enable each and every one of us to have a voice. I'll say no more - promise ;o)

No asciwhite what I am getting at is moronic bunches of people who go round randomly victimising people THEY THINK might have done something wrong, today, in Britain, nothing to do with history or witch hunts. That's why I am so utterly anti-vigilante and since when have the British people NOT been able to change the laws of the land? They constantly evolve according to public opinion and frankly your ideas that you'll just have to put up with a judiciary that doesnt represent you is a bit lie down and die to be honest. People have fought for years for law reforms of every type so why don't you join them and press for harsher penalties for rapists since you feel this strongly and make a difference in a positive way instead of calling for castrations and bloodbaths etc.The law is not a Perfect Creation but it's pretty damned good in this country and as such it needs to be cherished and helped to evolve to represent what is fair and right as much as possible. You can never have total equality but we are as near it as is practicable and I am terribly sorry for this little girl and for all other victims but that cannot be compromised just because people want deviants torn limb from limb to satisfy their own need for primitive justice.
Question Author
Hi noxlumos, is the death sentence primitive justice? for a primitive act? You are right that I can't be bothered to campaign for tougher sentences because I know The House of Lords will never rule in people like mines favour. Thats if they're awake long enough to understand the question. I do not go around randomisingly victimising people, I believe in DNA evidence and get rid of them. I haven't read of anything about vigilantes and people being dragged from their homes and killed by mistake, or is that more on the religious front of things? I do feel we now bow down to the Human Rights of the perpetrator. As for laying down to die, I'm sorry if this upsets you but I'm glad I'm leaving this world sooner rather than later and if I had the energy I probably would be campaigning in The House!
I said I wouldn't post again. However, I have to add, asciwhite, that you surely must realise how many people take the law into their own hands into this country and what the results often are. Innocent people get beaten up and killed every day because people do this. Nothing at all to do with religion. A vigilante is simply someone who takes the law into their own hands.
