Now I know that we must have ethnic diversity in news readers but how did this woman pass a screen test? She can't pronounce "L", says "De" instead of "the" and stumbles over sentences all the time, just waiting to see if she says "aks"! What happened to quality, like Clive Myrie, Trevor McDonut and Moira Stewart for example?

TTT, she does perform her job correctly.  Everyone can understand her except TTT.

Just listening now....

"....de final resawlts of de palamentree e-ection in Pakistan show that inepedant candidirts linked to de jelled former prime minster Imrun Carn won de most seats with orver ninetee...." - Trevor McDonald will be putting his boot through the Roger!.

TTT

This is a silly thread. I watched the clip posted earlier and understood every word - as did everyone else. You're on your own with this.

And this:

"Now I know that we must have ethnic diversity in news readers but how did this woman pass a screen test?"

...well, that's just a bit dog-whistly but unfortunately for you - the kennels are empty.

He appears to think I chose to post only the best example of the hundreds of video clips available.

He's wrong but he won't admit it.

Question Author

sp: "This is a silly thread. I watched the clip posted earlier and understood every word - as did everyone else." - I didn't say I could not decipher it I said it's poor for a news reader to need deciphering.

TCL

I don't know why TTT keeps referring to Trevor McDonald (who had a very distinct Trinidadian accent), but like Catherine Byaruhanga was very undertandable.

I see that most people here are the "contrarians".

"I didn't say I could not decipher it I said it's poor for a news reader to need deciphering."

Literally just you.

Really really poor.

Have your Sunday dinner mate. This is a bust.

Question Author

I think you all know what I'm getting at. Just contrarian central as usual. I guarantee she'd not have not been allowed anywhere near the TV for most of the life of the BBC. Still these days you can't move for Rosie Jones so I don't know why I'm surprised.

TTT. she's nothing like Rosie Jones.  No one agrees with you.  Accept it.

Question Author

13:26 No she's not but it's the same relaxing of standards that allows them both on the TV. You all agree with me really but you just default to the contrary because you can't bare the truth.

Go and have a cup of tea.

Have you not considered the fact you might be wrong?

"You all agree with me really"

Believe me, I do not agree with you.

You are deluded.

Well you are the first to mention race JR, you win a prize.

Question Author

I have reported 13:43 as racist content, hopefully Naomi will remove it. Sad that racism has been brought into this.

I do not agree with you, TTT.  You are just being inflammatory

TTT - I have to add my voice to the majority here.

The lady clearly has inherited an accent, but she speaks slowly and enunciates perfectly clearly.

I hear none of the mispronuncations you refer to.

And comparing the speech patterns of someone with an accent, to someone with a brain condition is tasteless in the extreme.

Your OP is baseless, and you risk further damage to your dignity and reputation by continuing to argue a point with no evidence to support it.

Question Author

ah, Andy or Naomi, please remove the racist post at 13:43, uncalled from from someone who is well aware of the rules, thanks.

TTT - The video at 13.43 is not 'racist' on the context in which it is offered here, to illustrate a point

The fact that you are reporting it on a thread you instigated about the speech patterns of a lady of colour, suggests that grasp of what actually constitutes racism, is a little hazy to say the least.
