gulliver, you seem to be such a troubled person, so full of hate and wishing for failure everywhere, now it's the Monarchy. Why is that? Is it because you perhaps are a loser yourself?

Khandro, I know you get asked a lot of impertinent questions on your own threads and others, but there's no need to pay it forward to other ABers.

22:06, BA right there.

Given they have no real role, you don't replace royalty with anything.

Granted it is wise to see what influence and function royalty can still apply and ensure the system is amended such that there is a detailed course of action allowing the same restrictions are applied without relying on a privileged family or individual doing the right thing.

spot on. Khandro....

"This post is about the British Royal Family. If you want to discuss America and their gun culture, please open a seperate thread of your own.  OK. Or have a day off"

haha, the wannabe tough guy mouthing off again...its you that should take a day off, and some

the monarchy is a reprehensible institution and the Restoration was a terrible mistake.

Perhaps we should have a referendum. If more than 50% don't want them, then they're gone.

I'm sure we'd all be happy that the will of the people prevailed and there'd be no complaints.

Once the ' older' generation go to heaven the RF are toast .

The Monarchy was always going to be on thin ice after Elizabeth died, so many folk admired her in spite of being basically anti-Royalty.

The antics of Andrew and Harry have also done a lot of damage.

I think the, "and some" is disguised affection from BAZWILLRUN...

Charles looks as miserable as chuff since he became King. Good on him for wearing that Greek flag tie though. It shows his soul hasn't completely shrivelled up and died under the weight of duty yet.

An hereditary monarchy is not a "right" thing in this day and age. It will be abolished - not in my lifetime, but it will come.

Untitled is right - the Restoration was a mistake, they should have found a better way.

Those lefties wishing to abolish the instutution of the monarchy on an ill thought out and ideological basis should be careful what they wish for, they could end up with a President Starmer or God forbid, Rayner, - or even Corbin

"the Restoration was a mistake, they should have found a better way"

Is that tongue in cheek? I'm no raving monarchist but a poll in 2024 confirms that all our history for the last 500 or so years could have been so much better if only ...

Thats a pretty sweeping statement.

On popularity, I'm pretty sure that in thr pre-Setanta/Ipsos days or whatever the rating works have dipped below 50 had there been a poll

Does anyone else find that their text display (iPhone) is getting corrupted sometimes as they type? It doesn't seem to happen anywhere else.

Khandro - as previously stated and as demonstrated in numerous countries a president can be a figurehead WITHOUT political powers.

Citing current politicians as possible presidents is just foolish.

Ich, yes, I'm finding that.  Words I've already typed repeat over what I'm curently typing, the whole ending up in a messy 'blob'  - if that makes sense.  It seems to sort itself out before I post though.

The nationwide celebrations for royal events would appear to belie the findings of that poll.  People who want to abolish the monarchy and this country's culture and traditions know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

First requirement of the new president - he/she must be woke.

Suggestions please
