The Independent ;-
"Rishi Sunak’s government has dropped a proposed ban on importing fur and foie gras, environment secretary Therese Coffey has suggested, as she claims she wants to be the “voice of the countryside”.

The cabinet minister has said that while animal welfare is important, the government must “think through priorities” with limited time to push through legislation.

While fur farming and the production of foie gras – a paté made from the livers of force-fed ducks or geese – are currently illegal in the UK, campaigners say large quantities of both commodities continue to enter the country each year.

Banning fur and foie gras imports was part of the Animals Abroad Bill introduced under Boris Johnson. However, ministers ditched the bill after they deemed it “un-Conservative”.

Speaking to The Sunday Telegraph, Ms Coffey said: “Animal welfare is very important. All I would say right now is that we need to think through priorities. We stand by the welfare action plan, but there’s only so [much] time that we can get the legislation and stuff like that.”

She seems to be blaming lack of time for overriding animal welfare concerns.

makes a change from blaming Putin, I suppose. She can still blame caviar shortages on him.
Whilst I am saddened it hasn't happened there are bigger fish to fry.

It's called prioritisation and something people in the real world have to do dialy. No that I would expect a couple of rabid commies to understand that.

And its not just 'Toffs' by the way. Labelling it such degrades the problemm
They may yet organise a tax on these commodities designed to pay for The Door Of Extortion for their mates over the way.

Now THAT'S the Tory way.
There's much more important legislation to get through. There's the suppression of plebs' protests. There's the suppression of the plebs seeking a living wage. There's the creeping destruction of the free health service. There's the implementation of tax breaks for the toffs. Let the plebs feed off the crumbs from the Toffs' table (that trickle-down effect so beloved by the Tories). Etc. etc.
'Toffs' sounds like a throwback to the 1930s. Left wingers in support of a Labour Party that is in reality only a distant memory really are stuck in the past.
Peoples welfare is very important too. This is just a diversion from more serious issues.
Sounds like an excuse to me.
All that people who object to the production of these products have to do is to er... not buy them. If nobody in the UK bought furs or foie gras there would be no incentive to import them. Why is it necessary to legislate to compel everybody else to subscribe to such ideology?
I'll bet it's a problem with trans fats, New Judge, anything involving those five wee letters is untouchable.
It's a question of morality judge. One might similarly suggest that if you didn't want to end another's life that one simply doesn't do so, but then why is it necessary to legislate to compel everybody else to subscribe to such ideology ?
