is there anybody out that is in a state of shock,like me. at the low sentence of 61/2 yr prison term given to the guy who stole enough cheque books to steal 20 million pounds(and he was a asylum seeker) i find it quite unbelievable that he will be out in just over 3 yrs. i myself had a cheque book go missing and a cheque for �17.500 was presented for payment to my bank,luckilly they checked with me by phone and refused payment.but what about all the rest.they should have got 20 yrs

The gremlins made it look as though you said 612 years! Ha ha ha! But anyway, there is the danger that a lot more than 6 years would be getting to be more than some people serve for manslaughter or murder. (And the fact that he was an asylum seeker is irrelevant).

I am not aware of this subject, I did not quite follow the question either, do you mean that he stole the cheque books and then actually managed to steal GBP 20 million using the stolen cheques? Cos in that case why not use a simple calculation to decide how many years in prison is correct - divide the amount stolen by an average years salary and thats how many years it should take in prison to make up the dept.

He will serve about three and a half years and retire to a life of luxury. Britain truly is the land of opportunity for criminals anyway.

The judge showed his knowledge of the law when he recommended the culprit for deportation. In fact what he has done is ensured that some law firm somewhere will make a cool million because if the Uk govt has accepted that he faced persecution in Congo and granted him asylum then no court can send him back to his country to face persecution.It will not happen and there will be endless appeals and lawyers will become rich. In this case the law is not the ass but the bloke in a wig who made the decision.
