Mr Bassett's "Irexit Freedom Party" has had rather less impact at the polls than Lord Buckethead usually does in the UK - I certainly know who has the more realistic policies ...
He is an ex-Diplomat.

And he is not the unbiased commentator portrayed by the Daily Express. His CV includes
// He is the senior fellow for EU affairs at the centre-right think tank Policy Exchange. He is also the author of Brexit: Options for the Border and Brexit and the Border. In 2020 Bassett published a book, Ireland and the EU Post Brexit, which was sharply critical of Ireland's former Taoiseach Leo Varadkar. //

So anything anti-EU he says is not surprising, he has a long history of opposing Ireland’s membership.
Can you not read signs? The roads have all been improved with money from the EU.

I'm Irish....so please don't question me.

btw....I voted 'leave' for the UK.
"Ireland has benefited hugely from its EU membership - and everyone here knows that."

Now they are going to be ask for the payback!
joining up to a union always implies you'll make gains and losses. The Irish seem to be well in front.

ummmm: Yes I can read signs, I still don't see what relevance my ability to read signs and the frequency of my visits are. Yes Ireland have done well out of the EUSSR, now they want their CWT of flesh in return. Would that not be a good time to leave?
No. The benefits of staying in outweigh the cons of leaving.
Oops. Remove the "of leaving" bit. The benefits of staying outweigh the cons.
Indeed, Untitled. The negotiating skills when dealing are important too, which may not have helped the UK.

We have done well out of the EU because the Irish, when negotiating, are both charming and confusing at the same time resulting in a win for us.....as Dave has found out since meeting me..... ;-)
Ignorance is bliss, Gness.

TTT probably visits cities. Not rural areas where we are from
I know, Ummmm. Not so familiar with Tip but the benefit down in this corner has been fantastic. Dublin, at that time, made sure the rural areas like ours gained so much from membership.

We have wonderful roads around here now. It's great to drive into big town without having to remove my dentures and tighten up the bra straps... ;-)

Money from the EU, the EU has no money.
Gness needs to invest in some suspension, be it her bra or their car.....

No, seriously, the fish situation will not impact on Ireland - it's peanuts as to GDP (ok it's emotional), as it is here. The question is whether Ireland becomes one economically at least as in the reverse of the PRC/HK principle of 'one country, two systems' or goes further. I say look at these stats - the unification isn't there yet but maybe it's not far off and within my lifetime....By the end of 2025 (joke).

The UK should certainly impose more costs on the EU/Eire for using us as a land bridge!
We don't need to do either, DT since the EU gave us fantastic roads. :-)
Davebro they are via the Northern Ireland protocol read it
Perhaps ttt needs to leave his hatred of the EU and let other countries decide their own future
please remove my garbage, I thought I had the poll stats for N.Ireland as to unification which is now over 40% pro the move....

ummmm: "TTT probably visits cities. Not rural areas where we are from" - wrong again oh dear ummm you really shouldn't make assumptions about people like that. I used to assist a mate of mine who surveyed sewers and pumping stations etc, when the EUSSR were building your infrastructure. I've been to more or less every knook and cranny you have from Templebar, to Balina, from wick to Belmullet, from Galway to Cavan. I've been up "mountains" down caves, in the middle of nowhere and holes in the middle of everywhere. I've been race meetings at Navan, Thurles, Naas, Roscommon etc. I've probably spent more time and been to more places than you. .....and yes we earned a lot of dosh.
