is beyond belief. Mass graves. Around 10,000 dead kids discarded and secretly buried. I am ashamed to be a Catholic.

Paigntonian, I'm not religious, but if atheists had committed those kind of crimes- it wouldn't make me ashamed of being one. If you have lost your faith and belief, that's one thing. But you should know they aren't all the same.

Shocking.
Horrendous situation from start to finish.

It's really hard to go to Mass when, firstly, 931 priests in England and Wales have admitted abuse against children over a ten-year period (reported in the Sunday Times but, strangely, not reported elsewhere) and now the appalling death toll of babies in the republic who were under the 'care' of nuns. I have come to the conclusion that if, if my kids were young, I would not leave them in the care of a Catholic priest. And the only possible consequence of that opinion is that I should not worship in a Catholic church. It's very hard to abandon a sincerely held belief. Truly hard. I don't know where else to go when my 'anchor' has gone. Rudderless.
i am a non believer, have never sought out solace from any church - not since attending a CofE school which didn't really count to be honest -
Disgusting.
Paigntonian, it's a choice, you don't have to be a Catholic.
Very, very sad and very dark days, but Paigntonian surely not all catholics are as warped ??
all I can suggest is Mr Fry's excellent evaluation of this disgusting religion:
I have no idea why it has followers.
No, Shirley... you get abusers in any religion or none. It doesn't speak for everyone, or can be blamed on religion.

burley: Of course they're not. There are 1.2 billion of us. I said I was ashamed of what has happened. And I would not leave one of my grandkids in the care, however briefly, of a Catholic priest. And if I didn't trust a priest with my grandkids I don't think I can honestly pray, and help, in a Catholic Church.
so why are you in the religion?
// I am ashamed to be a Catholic.//
collective guilt - get over it

someone asked me - why didnt the pope intervene?
er because I think he didnt know .....

The 600 kids in the Tuam back yard ( unhallowed ground they were just sort of tipped in) has been around for a long time. I knew about it before I retired 2012. Why today?

Tora: You're showing the kind of intolerance that you accuse the Catholic Church of exhibiting. The Catholic Church takes no prisoners and you do the same.
You said you were ashamed to be a catholic, a different meaning to being ashamed of what some of them did, surely ? I personally, don't think you have anything to be ashamed of.
Painto
the unitarians really get into good works
so you might try them
the only thing is that their theology is really weird
christian but not trinitarian

I'm not ashamed to be a Catholic but at times I despair at being a part of the human race who can be so unbearably cruel.
