A work mate picks me up on a Wednesday in his personal car,
We arrive at work and then proceed to share a works van.
(Me as driver and he as drivers mate)

Guidelines suggest that I should make my own way to work (Sharing public transport)
Only to work with a guy that im working all day with anyway in a confined cabin of a van)

I then spend all day with this guy but Im not allowed to go out for a pint with him afterwards.
Have I got this right?

Meanwhile, Im handling literally thousands of goods per day.

yes. There is. as you can probably imagine, difficulties with making rules that fit 70m peoples circumstance
Think about it, Nailit. If you got an exemption to go to the pub for a pint with a mate you work with then Dave and I would. As would the folk next door. And all the teachers and health workers. We may disagree with all the lines drawn but drawn they have to be.
//I’m not allowed to go out for a pint with him afterwards. //

Not if you your are in Tier 1, and not in a family bubble.

Meanwhile, the pubs in the Houses of Parliament have been designated not as bars, but as ‘Works canteens’ so they can stay open longer than 9pm, and MPs can get p*zzed until the early hors.
One rule for them, a more draconian one for everyone else.
A dont see a problem with car sharing - its just advised not to isnt it but your cases different IMO? Maybe a letter from the employer saying you share vehicles all day for work purposes would be helpful in the very unlikely event you get stopped. Best to wear a mask tho for yours and he's benefit.

Do you think maybe they overlooked that example about drinking with workmates in the lockdown rules so back to the drawing board then about closing pubs and restaurants? Or maybe they decided its simpler to close them rather than having complicated rules which cant be policed and would obviusly be abused.
Alcohol is not served after 10pm in the Parliament bars.

So I should wait for a bus to get to a place where i will meet a workmate with whom I will share a confined space with anyway for the next 8 hours?

Makes perfect sense!
On Wednesdays accept the lift.
I have an appointment to pickup my new specs from the opticians on Thursday. Am I allowed to go?
who said that naillit?
ladybirder are they open? If so you can go.
Try not to make sense of it nailit - much of it is nonsensical.

Until tomorrow at midnight, that is.
I'd say yes LB.

It is absolutely ludicrous,
Im 'advised' to not share a car with someone with whom I will share the next 6-8 hours on a van, but I could use public transport whereby up to 15 strangers (On a bus) will be in close proximity?
FGS!
As stated in the first reply, how on earth could anyone set up rules and/or guidelines that would take account of every individual case.

Use common sense.

I never said it was. In every where other than the elite bubble, which is the parliament workers canteen. You are ejected onto the streets at 22:00.
In Parliament, you can get 3 or 4 pints in at 19:55 and stay until you have supped them. Matt Hancock was seen in there at near 11pm. He never denied it was probably too p*zzed to give an honest answer anyway.
