//What has this achieved//
According to the Americans it has prevented an imminent attack on American personnel in the Middle East.
You reap what you sow. Don’t provoke the sleeping lion. Trump pulls troops out of the M.E. Iran attacks a US drone. Iran hi-jacks oil tankers by force. U.S. embassy attacked with Irani backed terrorists.
Iran is pushing it’s luck and stupidly believe that troop withdrawal is a sign of weakness and capitulation.Wrong. I believe the Irani Ayatollas are due shortly for a bit of shock and awe. I am surprised ,so far, of the restraint shown by the U.S.
IMO yes kin Trump using his powers again will leave all the west under threat. Irans levels of "inforcement" run wide and deep.
Troop withdrawal IS a sign a weakness and capitulation I’m afraid.
Trump is learning the hard way that these “endless ME wars” are there for a reason.
“Speak softly and carry a big stick” is often good advice. Trump seems to have been doing the exact opposite: ranting and raving while at the sane time thinking the US can afford to withdraw its forces.
It may well be true that this has avoided an imminent attack. On the other hand such a high profile act is bound to raise the stakes and Iran will feel it has to respond.
what was this genera doing in iraq, let alone there militia...must very fickle in that part of the world.
Yes agree ichkeria, no one likes being slapped in public, and will do anything to save face, more innocent lives will be lost I am afraid.
Yes it is an open secret that IS is funded by some of Saudi Arabia's wealthy elite.
I doubt this is Good News for anyone in the west or east
Probably right annea, but western attacks will receive the most publicity.

the set up...
April 8, 2019, Trump Designates Iran’s Revolutionary Guards a Foreign Terrorist Group

On June 20, 2019, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps's (IRGC) shot down a United States RQ-4A Global Hawk BAMS-D surveillance drone

Grace 1, was detained by British Royal Marine commandos off Gibraltar on 4 July as it was suspected to be en route to Syria,

On 13 July, the Iranian coastguard detained the Panama-flagged MT Riah.

retro, when did "Trump pulls troops out of the M.E." ?

He pulled them out of Syria.
While the US has withdrawn from Syria (by no means all the doing of Trump of course) Iran and Russia have made hay.
While many of the troops from Syria have ended up in Iraq, the message coming out of the White House since 2016 had been “we want to be done with this”
Iran is at the heart of the current crisis in Iraq. The US have concentrated on dealing with IS there.
Another war mongerer/missile magnet has received his come-uppence.
Let it be a warning to others of that ilk....

Don’t wage terrorism in the ME and preach war against the US and the reaper(no pun intended) won’t come a-calling.
"He pulled them out of Syria." and into Iraq (still in ME)

"While the US has withdrawn from Syria"

no it hasn't... 'around 300 soldiers would remain in the U.S. military's Al Tanf base in the south, the officials said.'

"Iran is at the heart of the current crisis in Iraq. The US have concentrated on dealing with IS there."

I take it you mean in Iraq, not in Iran. Iraq, where the US forces have been in force since 2003.
"Just two weeks after President Donald Trump triumphantly declared the “100 percent” defeat of ISIS’s caliphate,"

Infinite supply of enemies, home grown and imported.
I didn't say the US had withdrawn completely.

"Iran is at the heart of the current crisis in Iraq. The US have concentrated on dealing with IS there."

I take it you mean in Iraq, not in Iran.
I said "iraq"
ISIS has been defeated territorially but not otherwise.
I think we all know that
"What Has This Achieved " - well I imagine Jezza has got an invitation to another terrorist funeral.
A lengthy debate on AB :0)
"what was this genera doing in iraq," --- allegedly helping fight ISIS.

"ISIS has been defeated territorially but not otherwise." their Caliphate was destroyed and they have been scattered to the regions/Turkey/Jordan/Israel/ Saudi/Iraq/Europe/Caucuses/Europe/Idlib... ?????

"what was this genera doing in iraq "

It is alleged the reason for Suleimani to be in Iraq early on Friday morning was to attend the funeral of the Iraqi soldiers who died during those strikes near al-Qaim that happened on December 29th'
