Just heard on the news that Ms Sturgeon has promised to bring a bill into the new parliament to prevent the NHS being privatised. Why should this bother Scotland as if Ms Sturgeon has her way Scotland will vote to leave the the UK and will therefore not be part of the NHS.

because she is a nosey little busybody who thinks that she has some sway over the electorate, i wouldnt trust her as far as i could throw her.
I think it would be difficult in practice to set out such a bill as large parts of the NHS have always been privatised (eg GPs, pharmacies, the PFIs which New Labour rolled out, catering, cleaning services, car parks and private consultants)
depends what you mean by privatised. as ficfac says, the NHS has used contractor services for years...in the case of GP's and pharmacy, ever since it was created
The big concern is US drug companies to dictate what price the NHS pays for it's drugs
Or if you like .
Any trade deal will involve US drug companies , which will mean the costs of drugs supplied by them won't be favourable to the NHS

once they have , chortle chortle , their "independence" lets see where the money comes from for its own "NHS"....and if the eussr is that desperate to take them on board and remove the independence it so greatly yearned for from us and foists its own brand of slav... sorry independence on them it wont be so liberal with its handouts once we stop being extorted....
What happens to Scotland and healthcare if they leave the UK? (or is that cause for another thread?)
As already said her plan would be difficult because large parts of the NHS are already in private hands of contractors.

And TBH with regulation I don’t have too big a problem with privatisation per say. But it would be difficult for the government to control so who knows.

However she and Corbyn are just using the threat of NHS privatisation as a stick. Bit shouty words plastered all over the place... look at that nasty Trump is going to get his hand on our NHS. The US drug companies will charge us the Earth. And any number of other scares. Some may be true and some not. But if you are the sort to believe all the scare stories then this is no different to all the others we’ve ever heard let alone for the past three years.
America first.....simples
But aren't most of the big suppliers of drugs already in the US?

I think Spath is right. What will happen to Scotland, not only with the NHS, but without all of the financial support that they currently receive which allows them to provide free prescriptions and free university tuition fees.

why do you think the wee krankie wants to get onto the eussr gravy train...scotland hasnt got a hope in hells chance of going it alone...and as i said earlier once the eussr stops getting the £39 billion it extorts from us they wont be so liberal with the wonga handouts...i have a few scottish friends who all agree scotland hasnt a hell in hopes chance of surviving without the handouts its been used to getting..
MAABOF
If it ensures promises are kept re the NHS I don't much care what her motivation is. Hopefully it isn't necessary anyway as everyone has said they won't privatise it any further.
The NHS paying more for US drugs is the stupidest scare story they've invented since the bloody nonsense about us running out of petrol when we leave the EU.
Some people listen to any old ***.
More scaremongering. I watched Andrew Neil grilling a member of the shadow cabinet the other night, Labour’s claim apparently that if the Tories win the election all drugs purchased by the NHS will be at US prices. Neil asked him several times why the cost of the 90% we buy from elsewhere should increase to equal the 10% we buy from the US. Surprise, surprise, he couldn’t answer. Who’d a thunk it?!!
//Just heard on the news that Ms Sturgeon has promised to bring a bill into the new parliament to prevent the NHS being privatised.//

She might struggle since. Parliament has just been dissolved and she was not a Member anyway and as far as I am aware has no intention of standing to become one next month.
I assumed she meant that the SNP will try during the next term after the GE.
Jesus wept.

If anybody takes any credence in what Sturgeon says about the NHS or Corbyn, then they are certifiable dribbling idiots.

The UK tax payer funded NHS will NEVER be privatised, and scare stories spread by fools like Sturgeon and Corbyn are just that - scare stories.

The trouble is, of course, the hard of thinking will believe the bilge these two morons spout. I know it's astonishing, but some cretins really will believe it.
DD:"If anybody takes any credence in what Sturgeon says about the NHS or Corbyn, then they are certifiable dribbling idiots. " - and thus a new abbreviation is born CDIs!
