Yes. In my humble opinion the Kurds have been stabbed in the back big time. Perhaps Mr Trump may now carry out his threat to sanction Turkey. I used to have respect for the Turkish Government until Erdogan arrived on the scene. What happened to all the judiciary, press, military and police he rounded up and arrested? Can we expect the Genocide of the Kurds like the atrocities and Genocide on the Armenians years ago.?Surely this is an illegal act of war?

I fear for them Retro,Turkeys regime must of thought the Americans et al would ask them to give the Kurds autonomy for their part in ridding the world of the filth that is ISIS
So they turn on them instead
I suppose people with little influence could holiday elsewhere, denying the madman billions in tourist income.

They do quite well for what is effectively a third world dictatorship, spend your money elsewhere, sunseekers.

Certainly a consideration douglas. We only need so much genuine fake goods from Bodrum Market.
// Perhaps Mr Trump may now carry out his threat to sanction Turkey. //

Perhaps, but the fact that this came so soon after Trump made a major decision to pull US troops out of the area looks bad, at best. He must have known that this was coming. No military operation of this scale takes so short a time to plan. Either Erdogan asked for this, and Trump allowed it without consulting advisers and allies, or Erdogan lied about his intentions and Trump fell completely for the most transparent of lies.

The crime is entirely Erdogan's, but Trump has made a huge and costly mistake. Let us hope that he can find a way of rectifying it quickly.

No argument there.

I recall a News clip of specially trained female Kurdish snipers. They were the bravest of the brave. They knew what faced them if captured by Daesh.
Daesh were terrified if they were killed by a woman. No host of virgins waiting for them if disposed of by a woman.
Let's see what Trump's "great an unmatched wisdom" (or whatever self-felating term he used) has in store next shall we?
I find that hard to swallow, Mozz.
LOL
Trump's doing?
The US didn't have an army there. They had a few advisers. How long did you chaps want them to stay there as human shields. How many killed would you deem acceptable.
If Trump didn't pull them out and they were killed, I can just imagine how his fan club on here would react.
If Trump didn't pull them out do you really think Erdogan would have launched the attack? To do so would have been tantamount to declaring war on the US. It's clear that this would never have gone ahead under those circumstances.

That makes Trump culpable for a huge mistake -- and one that even some of his staunchest allies have recognised. There is no defence for Trump's decision. I don't hold him responsible for the attack on the Kurds; but he's at least culpable. Either by accident or design, the US decision to withdraw from the region gave the Turkish a green light to attack. Everyone saw that instantly. Why could not Trump? Or, if he did, how can anyone defend the decision to so clearly expose their de facto allies to this aggression?
I don't think it will end with Turkey, who are closely allied with Russia and Iran.
Turkey is a disgrace and anyone going there on their holidays is, similarly, a disgrace.
I agree CG. Well said.
// No military operation of this scale takes so short a time to plan.//
You've got that right, jim. So they didn't decide to do this when Trump said he was taking his 50 men out of harm's way.

//Either Erdogan asked for this, and Trump allowed it without consulting advisers and allies,//
You have no idea who he's been consulting with. I do know the UK was consulted.
//If Trump didn't pull them out do you really think Erdogan would have launched the attack?//
That's exactly what I think, jim.
I'd imagine that was the gist of their weekend phone-call. (which we may get to hear sometime)
Maybe we(armchair Generals) could move the British troops in Syria into the front line to be slaughtered. Or would that be different?
Theland//I don't think it will end with Turkey, who are closely allied with Russia and Iran.//
They're on opposite sides in Syria, Theland. Doubt they were ever too pally with (Shia) Iran. But who knows, the whole place is a madhouse. ;)
I think there is a vast difference between deliberately putting troops into a war zone and removing troops while all is relatively peaceful.
I can’t decide what the regular Trump-haters want – and they don’t seem sure either. If memory serves he was criticised for his country’s intervention in Syria but now he’s done what his critics wanted all along, he’s responsible for this. What to do, eh?
