What a tragic story, I do hope that poor little baby Reuben survives.
Could it have been a tragic accident, Staffordshire Bull Terriers are generally placid dogs in fact they are called 'Nanny dogs' because they are good with children.

I thought it to be a little over the top for the poor parents to be arrested and placed in hand cuffs, what do others think?

/// The Staffordshire Bull Terrier (or Staffie or Staffy as it’s most known) is a medium-sized dog with a tough exterior but a warm heart.
They may look imposing and like they should be feared, but Staffies are just goofballs on the inside. They love being part of a family and are loyal beyond belief. A Staffy loves to play with children, making it a great family dog. ///

stats of deaths relating to dogs. (all breeds, not just staffies)

Just a few per year. 2013 = 3, 2014= 4, 2015 = 2
In comparison, I wonder how many deaths are caused by asphyxiation due to cats laying on their owners when sleeping.
Just a thought!

Don't trust them, seen too many nasty ones who dislike other dogs. I had only had my dog for a week when one ran at her growling and snarling and it was only thanks to the bloke I was walking with that she wasn't hurt as he kicked the bloody thing away. I don't care how nice they are with kids (obviously not in this case though!), they are notorious for not liking other dogs and I avoid them like the plague. If I had MY way, I'd ban them and don't care what anybody thinks about that. And before anyone comes on saying shepherds attack, labs attack, jack russels attack blah blah blah - they don't have the powerful jaws of the staffie and are not half as dangerous because of this. A neighbour of mine had her little dog attacked by a staffie and she herself was bitten trying to help her dog, luckily the police attended and the dog was pts, good result.

I would question the breeding of the dog - so often 'Staffies' are accused when in fact they are not genuine pure bred Staffies, but crosses of other breeds not suitable to be crossed because of aggression issues. No doubt they will roll out the usual photo of what looks like an aggressive Staff drooling and snarling, when in fact it was a photo of a dog playing catch with a frisbee.
