Sparkly -- it helps to think of gender as a societal/cultural thing; therefore, there are as many genders as society as a whole decides to recognise. Historically, in Western cultures, therefore, there have been only two recognised genders, and these happened to exactly correspond with biological sex (as it was understood at the time, at least). On the other hand, some Asian or North American cultures have always recognised a "third gender": you may, as some point, wish to look up the "hijra", which is roughly, but not exactly, equivalent to transgender people in Europe.

Stating accurate definitions can not be phobic.
What might be phobic is being in fear because of it.
It can when the clear intention is to cause phobic reactions which is what was intended. Why else put it on a huge billboard in a specific area?
Plastering accurate definitions on a whacking great big poster as if it settles the issue, on the other hand...
//"what is a real man?"//

well in my book, it's anybody who knows that beer is instead of food, not as well as.......
"phobic reactions"

how do some of you come up with such garbage...its so funny, pure comedy in fact
Concern that newspeak is getting a hold and hoping to head it off at the pass ?

/// I like Piers, tells it like it is. ///

And telling it as it is, gets one disliked by the great unwashed.
I get bored of the "tells it like it is" line. It's usually completely wrong and really is just a transparent attempt to shut down any further argument or debate.

Piers Morgan has got a long way to go before he can truly claim to "tell it like it is".
Phobic in this instance, means a strong and unreasonable dislike of certain people or lifestyle choices, and is not related to other phobias that mean having or involving an extreme or irrational fear of something or a situation. I doubt many homophobes are actually frightened of homosexuals.
Thanks moggy. I really couldn’t be bothered answering another completely ignorant post.
Ah, another change of word definition in order to make those who misused it seem right after all. Well one can always use the excuse that language is a changing thing.
It’s the Oxford English Dictionary definition, OG. You know, the benchmark for our native tongue.

The question that must be asked is:

Are Trans Women, actually Women in the true definition of the word?

Why don’t you post that as a separate Q, AOG? It will only serve to confuse this one even further.
I would assume that a very large majority of the worlds population are very content with what they were born with, either a boy or a girl.

I accept there is a tiny minority who find themselves at odds with how they were made. This would be due to many factors I suppose, social acceptance, genetic disorder or whatever.

I did read that there has been a massive increase in the number of children being encouraged to go to gender dysmorphia clinics or whatever they are called.

All very alien to my way of thinking. However, I am prepared to embrace this modern concept and shall go to the public baths later and go to the female ( if that word is still acceptable) changing rooms, toilets and showers and demand admittance as I shall be identifying as "female" for the afternoon.
You’ll probably find the changing rooms are unisex ;-)

Surely his womans intelligence
Meant to say, who could doubt this womans intelligence
When I was young a Tranny was a small, hand-held transistor radio, not a freak.
