I know that respect is commanded NOT demanded but sometimes life doesn't always work out according to our pithy little sayings.
So how do you deal with someone that constantly disrespects you?
Ignore them and let it carry on?
Give them a clout and get in trouble with the law?
Distance yourself from them? (not practical, if you have to work with them for instance).
How do you deal with lack of respect?
Thanks.

I would try to ignore it but I'm not good at not seething. Bad for me.
The situation might be relevant. Not good to give your boss a clout.
It would depend on the frequency and the intensity. If it was at work and it was frequent, intense or both, I would record the instances and take the matter to someone senior.
As far as I am aware I have never been disrespected in the "real world" until i came onto AB. Here I have learnt to ignore them (he lies between his teeth) as they have my sympathy, being lonely, sad, unfulfilled individuals.

Sqad's ignoring you.
I've never been around someone who constantly disrespects me - if they did I would avoid them
I've never really felt or shown disrespect to much degree. Life is simpler to respect each other .
Give them 'the look'.
Might only work if you're big and ugly looking.

What if you cant. Work, family etc?

Trust me. It doesn't....
I`m lucky in that I work with different people every time I go to work so if there is someone I don't like (very rare) I don't have to see them again. I can't think of anyone who has disrespected me - we tend to be quite nice to each other.
Nailit..you're not obliged to mix with your family xx

I know ummm, most of them I avoid like the plague...

Now retired so I don't really care, unless it was a regular occurrence,
if it was I am still capable of dealing with it.
When working I was never knowingly disrespected except by a few 'Argies' but these things happen.
Then I ran my own Business, again if it did happen it was never obvious.
I tend to give them exactly the same treatment back.......very politely, of course.

I treat everybody with respect right up to the point where they demonstrate that they are undeserving of it.

Falklands Balders??
That depends who is doing the disrespecting and what form its taking....also I think the saying is that respect has to be earned....
My tactic would be to ask them directly why they are behaving in the way they are.
If someone is showing you disrespect, then there's a reason for it. It might be better to know. Then it can be addressed.

Then what Jack?
This is what I'm asking, how do you deal with it (in practical terms)?
Certainly was, Nailit,
