I see the Olivers are giving it a go but a lot of older people are struggling. Oddly enough I only use cash in places like bars and cafes etc but it would not be much of a leap to go cashless. I know that Gregorys are on the way out but do you think bangers and mash will follow?

If the cards for young children are able to be used in store then well and good.
No more cash in hand jobs. No more charity collection boxes. No need for money boxes any more. No more 'Penny for the guy'.On the plus side maybe there won't be any kids knocking on the door at Halloween or singing Christmas carols. Unless of course they are all waving cash machines in our faces.

I think you have lost the plot, Spath.
andres, regarding charities, there are lots of ways to make small donations at the till when shopping using your card, like this one.

I think I'll leave it there, Spath.
>>>How will i pay for parking?

I went to a car park today in Kings Heath in Birmingham.

The car park machine did not take cash and I had to pay the £1 for parking with my card.

It would accept a "swipe" from my card and that was good enough.
Is a cashless Society feasible - yes if everyone is forced into.

Do we want a cashless society, my take is NO. I dont want the Bnks (and then the Government) knowing about my every move thank you. I thin there will be a backlash at some point when a TwitFace type scandal comes out.

Personally I tend only to use cash for going down the local shops or the pub. I use it for the former because having been a small shopkeeper I know how much Banks clobber you on each transaction. For the later after the heady days of the late 80's early 90's where one lobbed an Amex gold card over the bar in the City and then proceed to attempt in drinking all their champagne, I have learnt my lesson on big wakeup bills the next morning! I woud not want that anymore so it's cash down the 'Spoons now.
hc4361---not yet in our area and would all that have to be accounted for on your bank statement.

>>> No more 'Penny for the guy'
>>> there won't be any kids . . . singing Christmas carols

Over three decades have passed since I last saw any kids collecting 'pennies for the guy' or going from door to door singing Christmas carols!
Simple answer - No.
"you'd put £2 on your child's cash allowance card and he'd loose 72P to tax."

Before you go completely round the twist, please explain the above, spathi. What tax would be payable by whom and what for? And what tax rate in the UK is set at 36%?

There is virtually no need for cash now. I draw very little cash from the bank now. What I do use is generally for tips in restaurants where I want be sure the recipient and not the proprietor gets the cash. If I had to do away with tat it would be no big deal.

Just try doing without it spathi and you'll soon learn to manage.
It’s not only feasible, it’s inevitable.
What planet is Spath on?
I think the same planet as the Three Billy Goats Gruff. Trip, trap...
My local cafe..cash only. Car parks cash. Chip shop cash.
Wife cash. Gardener cash with receipt. Car wash cash only. Corner shop cash only.

Irrespective of whether you pay cash or not, if the tills malfunction you will not be served. The notion of adding up the prices and accepting the exact money is beyond them these days.
