While it's quite possible that the hotel has one or two luxury suites at that price, Google suggests that the prices for most rooms are far lower. Simply searching for 'Sunstar Alpine hotel' brings up this:

It does not say McDonnell is PAYIng £700 for his room, presumably someone else is.
And no mention of other British guests at Davos, I notice the worst ever Prime Minister, Cameron is there, getting the same hospitality.

The usual range of pricing for the end of Jan at the Sunstar Davos is £110 (145 CHF) to £190 (255 CHF) per person but for some strange reason there is no pricing available for the 4 days of the World Economic Conference and the preceding night...

I suspect the Mail are engaging in deflection tactics. They should be worrying why business leaders had invited McDonnell. Why they are taking him seriously, and who he met. But instead they report a fake story that is poorly researched.
But it keeps Chancellor Phillip Hammond’s speech at Davos out of the headlines. The speech that Theresa May had to denounce before he had got to the end of page 1.

For such an important conference I am sure the rates for that week are not available for the reason that everyone will speculate.
When rich and powerful movers and shakers come to stay it ups the price afterwards as stupid people 'want to feel part of the establishment'. Why do you think so many people buy a piece of expensive crap just because some sudo celebrity brandishes it.
Anyway back to the OP.
Staying in expensive and plush places, getting freebees, being wined and dined is the reserve of the higher echelons of society and they grasp it greadily with both hands. McDonnal, Corbyn and co are no different. And why should they be? Because they are socialists?
Don't believe any ultristic rowlocks spouted about 'for the people'. For the people is a byproduct of thier own desire for power.
