He said Labour is in “much worse” shape now than during the Eighties under Michael Foot’s leadership.and claimed Jeremy Corbyn had allowed “extreme elements” to adopt dominant positions in the party.

“Now is worse,” he said. “Much worse, because it’s happening with the support of the leadership. They are bringing back the more extreme elements that were either outside the party or marginalised.”

His words will deepen the alarm felt by centrist Labour MPs about the rise of the Left under Mr Corbyn, whose allies last week secured a majority on the National Executive Committee and took over the chair of the party’s powerful disputes committee.
Labour MP Mary Creagh warned the party leadership not to be inward-looking amid reports that up to 50 MPs will be targeted for deselection by Leftists.

Well said Eddie !

Naomi...."Tony Blair made Labour very successful indeed - at least initially"

Initially ?

Labour won 3 consecutive Elections, starting with 1997, when it achieved its landslide victory, winning 418 seats, the most seats the party has ever held, and the highest proportion of seats held by any party in the post-war era.

Where was the Tory Party then, and again in 2001 and 2005 ?
the New Labour and current Labour are further apart than The Torys and new labour ever were, yet mikey et al seem unable to see that or perhaps they are happy to support the trots, either way it's puzzling.

Mikey, I know, Mikey, but going steadily downhill when his true colours emerged.

And what do you mean ‘Well said Eddie’? Eddie says that Tony Blair turned Labour into a clone of the Tories! If anything, Mr Corbyn should have the sense to take note and realise that what he's offering isn't too attractive to the public in general.
How many promises has Corbyn made if he gets into power, how many can he keep is more important.
Hasn't he said he would scrap university fees, sure the Chancellors of the Universities will be downright upset over that little bombshell. What else has he promised, more money for the NHS, where does that come from, what else?
Question Author
emmie, Don't forget he's going to magically produce the money to privatise everything.
And if the Tories are so popular, why did Mrs May lose her overall majority majority by calling an Election that she didn't need last summer ?
It doesn't matter who says it ... if it's true it's true.
Yes Blair is correct.
I'm guessing that Krom's post was to near the truth to get a 'well said' from Mikey.

Well said Krom's (well for 90℅of the post)
no one thinks the tories are so very popular, not at the moment, but Mrs May is having to get to grips with the complexities of Brexit, so much of the day to day stuff seems to get shoved to one side.
If the tories up the ante and offer the NHS a lot more money, where does it stop.
Because the young voters believed Corbyn's lies about student fees was a big factor.

Funny isn’t it. Blair turns Labour into a clone of the Tories, reaping enormous reward, and Mikey and Eddie, while continuing to hate the Tories, laud its success. You really couldn't make it up. :o)
Danny...I don't believe that for one second.

Labour is getting more popular now because the Tories are not.

The total collapse of the UKIP vote helped Labour, of course. It was the rise of UKIP that lost Labour its seat in my constituency in 2015, but the subsequent implosion of UKIP made sure that that it came back to Labour.
Danny...I am certain that when I asked you a few days ago, who would win an Election, if it was held on Thursday, you said that your weren't sure, and I agreed with you, as I wasn't sure either.

My view on that hasn't changed.
Another mugging by the right wingers on AB's 'only' self confessed left winger ( I'm sure there are of course others many others on here ,but are too scared to come
out)

Well done Mikey for your bravery under relentless bombardment
Ironic because he made it the Tory 'B' team. Success at the polls means little if one only wins to push the opposition's agendas and trash one's own.
Baz....I am not sure that I am ABs only self confessed left-winger...you and a few others are reasonable vocal !

But thanks for the support anyway !
People voted in droves because the left had nowhere to transfer too and moderate tory voters saw he was supporting their views. Abandon principles for popularity and that's what happens.
..to...
!
The infiltration of Labour by militants is far more serious now thaan back in the 1980s it is certainly true.
Whether that leads Labour to disaster at the polls or causes it to split remains to be seen.
I hate to say this but Labour at the moment seems like a massive con job to me: there are well meaning people on the left and there are cynical manipulators of public opinion, as happens with all shades of extreme politics left and right.
Say what you like about "old new labour" but the polarisation of our politics at the moment is NOT good. Look what it has done to politics in the US for example.
You need to pay more attention Bazile.

There are plenty of left wingers on AB ... it is just that mikey is the main left winger who will not question what the left wing do or say.
