The Commonwealth Games was a huge success in Manchester in 2002, so I expect Birmingham is hoping for a similar legacy.
But these things don’t always work, the London Olympics rather than leaving a legacy, have burdened the taxpayers with costly white elephants.
I'm in the west mids and its great news, if it generates jobs and brings people into the area its good stuff. The newsroom is buzzing this morning.

IF it brings lasting benefits , both financial and social , then it will have been seen to be a good thing - that's a BIG IF though .

As to the competition itself , it's probably in the second division of games .
I'm not sure how much prestige it brings to winners
750m is not huge but will it stick to that. I think that was the problem with the Olympic games - spending got out of hand.

If they can keep it to that then it will probably worthwhile.
