If somebody is found not guilty of a crime they are accused of they are exonerated. In other words they are innocent in the eyes of the law. And that's that. Whether they actually did it is entirely irrelevant.
This seems to have been overlooked.....

To be found 'Not Guilty beyond all reasonable doubt' is NOT the same as being declared Innocent.
But you exonerated. which means to be free from guilt or blame.

Someone could be found not guilty of assault in a criminal case for example but the victim could win a claim for damages in a civil court as a result of the same assault.
Different level of proof required. Civil is on the balance of probabilities i.e more likely than not...or in other words anything that is over 50%
I know about the levels of proof but if a person is "innocent" (definitely had not committed the offence) rather than "not guilty" (we think he did it but not enough proof to convict) they would not be liable to pay damages in a civil case would they?
