'Las Vegas authorities now acknowledge mass murderer Stephen Paddock may have been “radicalized” before his bloody rampage Sunday at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival but they won’t say what species of radicalism the shooter may have embraced.'
So said the sheriff but wouldn't elaborate.

jim; Nothing "just happens".
Khandro - // andy-hughes; 58 innocents dead and 489 wounded and you want us to accept
" that 'things happen, and that's it...' which is the reality of the world we live in."

What a plonker ! //

It doesn't matter what the numbers are - only that the sheer scale of this atrocity means that the need for 'a reason' is correspondingly higher.

As to whether you accept my point or not, I really couldn't care less, but if you wish to argue reasonably, please feel free.

Hint - being personally abusive doesn't cut it.

Your view is the complete opposite to mine, but the difference between us is, I think you are entitled to hold your view whether I agree with it or not, and my not agreeing with it does not give me licence to insult you.
I liked Talbot's observation at 10:24.
There does seem to be a collective sigh of relief or hope even, among certain posters, that this latest mass murder possibly wasn't carried out in the name of Islam.

There does seem to be a certain amount of irritation among certain poster that we can’t same that this latest mass murder was carried out in the name of Islam.
Regarding the ‘things just happen’ idea, a journalist friend of mine posted this online earlier in the week:

My guess about Vegas mass murderer Stephen Paddock is that he was deliberately trying to get into the record books. It's ‘the American way’. Anything to get noticed. The authorities stopped announcing how many people had committed suicide by jumping off San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge because they were worried there would be a scramble to grab the coveted 1000th slot. After the 499th, a guy leapt to his death wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with the immortal words "I'm the 500th!" In the fame-obsessed States, there is a widespread terror of anonymity. Unable to distinguish between notability and notoriety, sad little losers like Paddock stop at nothing to make their mark. For him, just being a "shooter" wasn't enough. Positioning himself perfectly high above a packed country music concert, he worked out a way to firmly establish himself as the worst shooter of all time. Mission accomplished. It's hard to imagine a scenario where one man could ever again cause so much carnage. Well done, Stephen, you did it! Isn't that special?

sp; Perhaps your friend should send his theory to Las Vegas police and they can then stop looking for another reason :0)

to stir it up a bit further, this from the BBC;

"Sheriff Lombardo has previously suggested that investigators were open to the possibility that someone else was involved.

When asked if he had an accomplice, Mr Lombardo said he had the "assumption that he had to have some help at some point"."
I suspect the Police have already guessed that it is something along those lines.

Of course, if it is then it means the anti gun lobby have nothing to hold onto as this man was hell bent on killing and could have carried out this atrocity in the UK given he was loaded and could afford black market guns.

As I have said many times before the US need to understand what drives people to do it since guns are in other countries and it does not happen (at least not so alarmingly regularly).
I would hope the Police are looking at it with an open mind and therefore any possibilities should be considered.

The problem is the Media in their rush to be first often mus-construe what is really going on.
I agree with YMB when he writes...
// I think it is important to not jump to conclusions and accredit it to ISIS, this just gives them more publicity and furthers their aim of terrorism. //

That may or may not be true but at least 'certain' posters take part in threads whether the thread topic is American nutter or Islamic nutter.
We could stop speculating ? Maybe just wait for police statements ?
// We could stop speculating ? Maybe just wait for police statements ?//

and wait a long time - like in Manchester
They even havent had the inquests altho we know they are dead and who dun it (point of an inquest is to identify who has died and what they died from)
// It doesn't matter what the numbers are//

hmm stalin would disagree
one death is a tragedy - a million deaths are a statistic

stalin was more of a million man

Yes, and of the failed attempt to mass shootings in Times Square it is reported today;
"All three were arrested months ago, but the charges had been sealed as investigators with the FBI and NYPD Counterterrorism Unit searched for possible co-conspirators."

I'm not sure how this adds to the discussion - ?

Think hard andy
Also a Philippines connection between the two.
Let's try placing that "he may have had help" in context:

---------------------------------------
http://fortune.com/2017/10/05/las-vegas-gunman-stephen-paddock-weapons/
The Las Vegas gunman who killed 58 people and himself in the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history stockpiled weapons and ammunition over decades, and meticulously planned the attack, authorities believe.

But what led Stephen Paddock, 64, to unleash the carnage he did remains largely a mystery.

“What we know is that Stephen Paddock is a man who spent decades acquiring weapons and ammo and living a secret life, much of which will never be fully understood,” Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said at a news briefing on Wednesday night

Lombardo said he found it hard to believe that the arsenal of weapons, ammunition and explosives recovered by police in their investigation could have been assembled by Paddock completely on his own.

“You have to make an assumption that he had some help at some point,” Lombardo said.
---------------------------------------

... over decades of assembling the stockpile (which he hardly used), he may have had help at some point.
