there is a housing shortage in London, so instead of a pub they can make a few flats for the residents of Grenfell to move into if they want it.

JTH, I have no issue with gay bars, used to drink regularly in a bar in Bruxelles affectionately known by the British as the Tranny Arms. What I do have a problem with is, as in this case, where help is given in preference. It is wrong and not only that it brings Gay Bars to the fore for every nutter with a grievance. Until we stop this special treatment for small...

/// If you catch the eye of someone in a gay friendly establishment, it's more than likely that they will be gay. ///

Not necessary sp, if straights are welcome as you say they are, it's just as likely that they may be mistaken as being gay.
Being approached or chatted in in any pub/bar in part and parcel of a night out, you respond accordingly - it's never been a problem for me.

As for getting into my Eighties and never seeing kissing in a pub/bar , well I won't - I could write a book.
AOG

No, that's not the case.

Most people in gay friendly bars are gay. Most, not all.

Most people in regular bars are straight. Most, not all.

Whist gay bars have some straight patrons, mostly young straight people will go to straight bars if they are on the pull, because they realise that the demographics of gay friendly bars work against them.
AOG

I've just reread your post and realised that I've misunderstood what you mean.

Yes, it's absolutely possible that a straight person will be mistaken for gay in a gay bar, but it's not an issue because the type of straight person who goes to a gay bar is not going to be offended or upset about the approach.

They understand the environment. Those that go to gay bars have always (in my experience) been relaxed and at ease with themselves.

They actually find the attention a compliment.

But like I say - the reason why gay bars exist is for young gay people to meet each other, and one of the key drivers is the same with young straight people - going on the pull.

Do you see that?
sp1814

/// By the way AOG, if you drive past any regular bar on a Saturday night, you will always see young people snogging. ///

Your reference to driving past would mean that they were outside the bar, so yes I suppose that can be expected these days.

In my day we possessed different standards.
AOG

Yes, but what I'm saying is that it happens.

I understand your point that you've never seen it, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Straight people snog each other all the time in clubs and bars.

And then outside.

Therefore, it's perfectly fair to understand that young gay people should have the right to feel comfortable doing the same.
These days eh? These days............

I feel a Stewart Lee sketch coming on.
AOG

Do you get the point about gay friendly bars being a place where gay people can do the same as straight people - going out 'on the pull'?

And do you get the thing about demographics? That it's mathematically difficult for young gay people to meet other young gay people in regular bars, pubs and clubs?
sp1814

/// They actually find the attention a compliment. ///

Really???? Or are you talking from a gay persons point of view?
AOG

No I'm not.

Do you get the thing about demographics? That it's mathematically difficult for young gay people to meet other young gay people in regular bars, pubs and clubs?
My Dad was in a Gay Pub once and someone made a, non-threatening, pass at him. Dad knocked him back without causing offence and did not feel offended himself.....

What do you imagine would happen to you, in those circumstances, AOG? A thunderbolt would descend from the heavens and smite you...?.....or him....? Or that your masculinity would be forever dented or tanished? That you would carry a mark, forever visible, that showed you to be the sort of chap others might think of as being.....gay?!?
// There's a abundance of it on here. Day after day.//ZM
( tosh that is)

eek erm - normal day on AB then ?

Just lie back and let it flow over you ZM - the tosh that is
but just dont hold your breath !
( sozza I love recycling fave remarks in different circumstances )

or normal AB tosh on climate change ?
same posters: so very much the same posts
You're simply adding to the tosh PP.
If the pub does open, how will they prove that the staff and customers are 'Gay Friendly'? Will they send an inspector in to pose as a Homosexual? If they do I would just love to be there when he / she makes the first inspection!
bet another mosque gets built though, one day london will be one giant mosque, rather a gay bar...although not gay myself, but if i fancy a pint..
EDDIE51

It will be relatively easy. All the inspector would need to do is go there.

Like most people, inspectors can a) get a feeling for atmosphere and b) can sense what a gay bar is. I would wager that if you walked into a gay bar, you'd know within about 30 seconds.
fender62

No. It's not going to be a mosque. For that to happen, there would have to be a planning application for change of business use.

That's not happening, nor has anyone suggested that it will happen.
Say your'e not gay these days and they lock you up.
It's true ... say you're not gay and you're thrown in jail
-Talbot-

That doesn't happen.

You're talking nonsense.
