Islay seems to think that you cannot be a hero if you are in a job where you know the risks, which would preclude any member of the armed forces from receiving a medal for bravery.

TWR - your question to me has no relevance to what is being discussed.
And ( 08.32) a chip on your shoulder.
The word 'hero' has been devalued in recent years e.g. tennis players, footballers, etc but this man is a true hero.
I beg to differ...fawning is a very different action to respect and gratitude...NOT an opinion..

I'm off into Town, to have breakfast with my old BT mates....have fun when I am gone !
TWR, can you please explain how I have a chip on my shoulder? To have a chip on my shoulder means I must hold a grudge against someone - to whom do I hold a grudge against?
Shame for you to make it so personal after a decent debate without any cross words.
He deserves a police medal at very least.
The Queen's Police Medal (QPM) is awarded to police officers in the United Kingdom and Commonwealth of Nations, for gallantry or distinguished service. It was created on 19 May 1954, when it replaced the King's Police and Fire Services Medal (KPFSM), which itself replaced the King's Police Medal (KPM) in 1940.
cough !
If a member of your family would have been in the killers area & the PC did nothing to help them, you would be the first to condemn him, I am not getting personal with you, as you previously said, that's my opinion.
very informative Donny...were you a Police officer ?
Fawning equates to toadying or groveling, and is the action of those who are either trying to ingratiate themselves or of those who want something in return. Showing admiration and respect for a brave man is neither.
Google Hero Islay, that might answer your replies.
No Minty, quite the opposite in some respects. A detective did me a great favour once and it left a mark.
But TWR you have made an accusation against me and have written it down, do you have any evidence.
You seem to know how I think TWR what evidence do you base that 'opinion' of me on.
Murray please don't hide behind your cough if you have something to say please say it.
He fought back to save others. He is a Hero in my book!
police Officers are not routinely expected to grapple with knife wielding terrorists otherwise they would all routinely wear full body armour and be armed, he did what an armed response team would do normally, however he recognised the immediate threat to other's lives and acted without any thought to his own vulnerability...above and well beyond
Twr, already given islay a link for definition at 08.16
I don't accuse anyone that includes you, strange isn't it,all the replies seems to indicate the same, or am I wrong? Oh Well roll on summer.
I can't say if your wrong has I don't have a scooby what you are on about (not for the first time)
