Success is all relative. I think we'd spent a lot of time discussing whether defending 200 seats or so could be counted as "successful" for Corbyn, given that many expected him to lead Labour to Oblivion. Against an actually competent Tory leader, that might still have happened. As it is, he's clearly only strengthened his position. Not enough to win this time out, but enough to legitimately claim success of a sort. He's avoided disaster, he's increased Labour's vote share and seat share, and he's stopped Theresa May from commanding the majority she desperately hoped for, or any majority at all for that matter.

Not a victory, but sometimes technical defeats feel as good as victories.

May was given a massive headstart and blew it, needing help from Northern Ireland to stay in power. Corbyn was in charge of a party in disarray and disunity, and made huge gains -- particularly in vote share. Who's the more unelectable of the two?

Yes, Corbyn lost, but he wasn't starting from the same point that May was. He is unelected but -- no longer -- unelectable.

The PM reminds me of the school bully who picks a fight against one of the weakest pupils in the schoolyard, believing him to be a complete pushover. True, the bully wins the fight, but comes out of it battered, bruised and with a reputation in tatters. Meanwhile, the 'loser' walks away from the fight with head held high and reputation greatly enhanced.

As another point, Corbyn won more votes than Blair in 2005, Wilson in 1964 and 1974, Attlee in 1945, and Cameron in 2015. Again... there's no doubt that he didn't win this election, but there's also no doubt that he *can* win an election in future.

Unelectable he is not. That is the point.
