Apologies - 'of' Britain.
As my late mother would have said, "Fine words butter no parsnips".
A handful of salt.
Sigh,.........
Really, really don't want to listen to them. I bet they said something along the lines of 'ain't nothing to do with us, guv'
anneasquith, why are you sighing? Have you listened to much else of what they say?
She is sighing because we have been ever so slightly critical of the peace-loving people who have only our best welfare at heart.
I get the impression this official statement is being dismissed here as somehow failing short of expectations. Reading it I can't see where there is any equivocation or holding back. Were it made by a non-Muslim official or "committee" in a reverse position of a large scale racist attack on Muslims, I believe it would be hailed by non-Muslims as very generous and fulsome. It is worth considering that the non-violent majority is rather confused, worried and lost for a solution to something that they, like the rest of us, find very disturbing - except that the metaphorical explosion arises among them and they don't recognise it as part of them, yet they feel they are being held responsible.

I feel they are willing to help the British people Muslim and none Muslim to eradicate this stain on the Muslim faith. I for one applaud this response. What the outcome may be, we shall wait and see. There is hope that they can clean up their own house.
Karl, //I get the impression this official statement is being dismissed here as somehow failing short of expectations.//

It doesn't fall short of my expectations. Whether or not I take it seriously though is another matter entirely.
Well, KARL, these disgusting outrages are not being perpetrated by Mormons or Buddhists or Methodists or Sikhs, are they. Their holy book says: 'death to the unbeliever'. Presumably the 'moderate' Muslims we are always hearing about agree with that. Not a very moderate thing to believe, is it?

Isn't this the type of open condemnation that many constantly state is conspicuous by its absence?

ag, in my experience this type of open condemnation is conspicuous by its presence, Call me cynical if you like, but I've seen other stuff from this group that purports to encourage integration, etc., etc., and I'm not impressed.
This is BCM on the PREVENT program. Note praise for (wait for it) Andy Burnham:

Amongst their many lies is their notorious description of the "Asian" grooming gangs as an "urban myth".
Question Author
Naomi - in a situation with no obvious solution, you would think that groups such as the MCB could exert influence in key areas.

The statement reads with good intent but, like Mrs May, they will be judged by putting their money where their mouths are.
ag, //you would think that groups such as the MCB could exert influence in key areas. //

I've no doubt whatsoever that they do exert influence, but the benefits - or otherwise - of that influence to society as a whole is highly debateable.
Question Author
v_e - thanks for link.

Why specifically is the PREVENT programme unfavourable.

(Toxic brand, discriminatory??)
Unfavoured because it "targets" Muslims rather than Mormons, Aggie.
maybe it could have said they will burn in hell for what they did and not go to paradise with x amount of virgins etc as muslims are supposed to fear that fate.
