Is Britain Really A Free Nation Or Democracy?
In order not to apparently upset the legions of foreigners (yes, intended) particularly of a certain religion, allowed into Britain, it seems we are no longer free to say much of what we think and the UK's original religion Christianity is suppressed and gradually pushed out along with Christian celebrations such as Christmas and Easter. Sharia Law is increasingly allowed to exist alongside traditional British law. Only last year, Britain voted to leave the European Union, yet those who oppose that decision have been allowed to delay it and may yet overturn it. So is Britain really a free nation or democracy anymore, and will it ever return to being so?

Not for huge numbers of Muslim women, it is not, Mikey. They have their affairs settled by Sharia Councils. They have no access to proper justice and it would not cross the minds of most of them to try to gain such access. Yes, they "agree" to its rulings but that is because they are told that Sharia Law (which discriminates heftily against women) is the way things are done. Sharia Councils are devised by men, run by men and their decisions invariably favour men (because Sharia Law does). To say it is optional is about the same as suggesting that arranged marriages are optional.
I'm surprised that you seem to condone a system that is so heavily biased against women. You - quite rightly - wouldn't show support for any other system that demonstrated such prejudice. Why do you believe that Sharia Councils are acceptable? Is it part of the conundrum that many people find themselves in when considering this matter - i.e. that you cannot be seen to show distaste for Islam even if it means accepting that religion's despicable views on women and gay people (not forgetting dogs, humane slaughter, and "infidels")?

As far as I can recall from my schoolboy history the Moors ruled Spain and Portugal (as well as having seats in parts of Italy and Malta). I don’t suggest for one minute that every last one of them was driven from those areas. As I recall I believe they were given the option to convert to Christianity or leave. Many of them converted and I understand that part of the “Spanish Inquisition” (made famous by Monty Python) was aimed at unearthing those Muslims who had ostensibly converted to Christianity but were thought to still be covertly practicing Islam. Of course a number of them would have remained and their descendants would now be in Iberia.
I can’t be bothered to look it all up but the year 1492 springs to mind (because it was the same year that “Columbus sailed the Ocean Blue”) as the date when Moorish rule finally ended in Spain, though I seem to recall it ended in Portugal much earlier. I think Ferdinand and Isabella were mixed up in it all (they were certainly instrumental in setting up The Inquisition). This is what I meant by the Moors being driven out. As far as I know nobody living in Spain today styles themselves as among the "Moors".

They might do, they might not (and I doubt they would had they undergone an Islamic education). But they certainly would not be encouraged to take up those options nor would they necessarily know how to do so. The fact is the alternative (Sharia Councils) should not be ruling on many of the matters that they do.

Vernonk, after reading some answers on here I'm sure a lot go around with closed eyes, can not hear or don't want to know, there is an issue, there are 2 very large Towns in our area, and close by old mill towns, I think they should be RE-Named, Islamabad, will people listen? what's the point, you get called a Racists, Scaremongering, did you ASK If Britain was a Free Nation? ha ha ha ha ha. dream on,
