Badly handled all round. As stated //So what went wrong here? It appears to have been a series of errors. A group of flight crew needed to be in Louisville, properly rested, in order to operate the next morning's plane. Had they not been able to get there, then many more passengers would have had their plans messed up. The big mistake the airline made was allowing...

that is absurd, what's wrong with leggings?
I'm not sure what is wrong with leggings either....they are sometimes unflattering on older women, but these two were girls !
Question Author
its obvious that something is going wrong with United, they should get their act together before the whole thing collapses in on their heads. PR disasters no question.
It all seems like a cunning plan to ruin the airline. :-)
It could have been so easy. Offer an upgrade to 1st class before boarding to passengers willing to go on the next flight out. There would have been non of this stupid situation.
Shocking behaviour by the airline, and not exactly appropriate behaviour by the passenger. Don’t they normally offer compensation to anyone who will stand down? I was offered a reasonable sum from BA about twenty years ago when a flight from Heathrow to Madrid was overbooked. I couldn’t take is as I would have missed the meeting I was attending had I taken the next flight, but as I recall the sum was sufficient that I would have accepted otherwise.

With them on the leggings front. It is like going out and about in nylons.

garaman
not really, leggings can be in any type of material..
...emmie, yes, really, some of the ones youngsters wear now leave little to the imagination.
that's probably what it would have amounted to Garaman: he had to be somewhere, so he couldn't take the offer; but it's very possible other passengers might have volunteered if the money offered had been enough (though I gather it was quite substantial). But they should have sorted it out before anyone even got on the flight.
He got back on again! How did that occur? Did they let go of him?

they banged the blokes head on the armrest, so you can see his face somewhat battered and bloody. the more you see it on the news the worse it seems.
Question Author
tilly no idea, it doesn't say if he continued on with the flight.
United has 'previous' when it comes to public relations disasters ...

... this song/video was an outburst of rage when they wouldn't address a musician's complaint - it is (possibly mythically) rumoured to have cost them $100,000,000 in lost business and share price falls ...

sd
so it would seem...
On 237's link it says he re boarded the plane. It said so on the 6.00pm news also.
Question Author
tilly
so why on earth did they try and chuck him off the flight.
a PR nightmare for United.
No idea, Emmie. Sorry.
Question Author
they could have done this with little or no problem
as mamy pointed out,
being a doctor does not give you god-like status. many people have to work. He wouldn't have banged his head (or had his head banged for him) if he'd have been reasonable
Tilly, according to the CEO, the man was escorted off the plane but escaped his minders and ran back on again, though looking dazed.
