I ask this because it is fine for America to act so gung-ho while their citizens can still sleep safely in their beds, just as they did during the two World Wars.

they didn't sleep safely in their beds during 2 world wars, what makes you think that. Many US servicemen and women died alongside our own troops during both wars, you should know that if you had fought in WW2.

I can't see Russia attacking the USA unless they want to start WW3, unless that's the aim.
Emmie - I think he means that the USA weren't being bombed.

I didn't mean the fighting forces, I meant the innocent women & children, as they like to put it now days.

And I think you will find it was only Russian women who fought side by side with their men on the front line.

Read my headline, none of those US protectorates are part of the United States of America.

And as for those Jap balloons.

/// On May 5, 1945, five children and local pastor Archie Mitchell's pregnant wife Elsie were killed as they played with the large paper balloon they'd spotted during a Sunday outing in the woods near Bly, Oregon—the only enemy-inflicted casualties on the U.S. mainland in the whole of World War II. ///

Can you read Putin's mind, because I must admit I can't, so having said that I would rather steer on the side of caution, than pretending that I can.
In modern warfare the Russians wouldn't send their bombers, their hackers would just switch off our power stations
Putin is using the Plonker, they like having warm water facilities, but do you really think Putin would risk war with the West for the sniveling rat?
