/// You have to look at the other issues surrounding security, because whether we like it or not we are the most watched people in the world. There’s more CCTV in Britain per head than anywhere else on the planet. And for CCTV to be effective you need to see people’s
faces.” ///

Must admit that he has a point.

/// I'm all in favour of CCTV, but Mr Nuttall's suggestion I suspect is not about that. ///

Being recognised on CCTV cameras is just one security breaching example, there are many more reasons why the burqa should be banned in this country as well as in other Western countries.
Vulcan / Ich, that's what this clown was wearing, are we afraid to say anything against these people? Yes the Government are, my view, this is the civilised UK.

AOG @ 1554, seems we are rolling over to please these people yet again.
There are signs and notices up in banks, petrol stations and even pubs saying, ''For security reasons, please remove your crash helmet or baseball cap'', but none mentioning removing a burkha .. don't want to upset the little luvvies do we!!
What I AM in favour of is ensuring that in situations where having your face covered is unadvisable or simply wrong, then there can be no exceptions made on religious or any other grounds. That is sensible, workable, and fair.
AOG's link about Birmingham was from 2010. I don't know whether there is any more up to date info on that story
Presumably the reason for petrol stations asking for customners to remove helmets is so they don't ride off without paying (!)
But it is rather daft, as the same principle applies: if you are planning to not pay presumably you'll make sure you keep it on.
And you can't move for women in burqas in our local pubs, so where would they get their trade from?
Thanks Baldric. So local Muslims were by 2015 asking for the cameras to be used
ichkeria, // you can't move for women in burqas in our local pubs, so where would they get their trade from? //

Where do you live? On another planet?
This is an interesting article on the situation in France, 5 years plus after they introduced their "vivre ensemble" law
lol occasionally I fly off to the planet "Sense of Humour" Naomi. You should visit sometime :-)
ichkeria, Ohhh.... I see. It was a joke. And there's me thinking that wife you once invented in the middle of one of these 'burka' discussions - you know, the one from a strict Muslim family - had got herself a part-time job.
ich; I bet they always win first prize on karaoke nights.
The face veil is a manifestation of Islam and is part of that religion’s subjugation of women. Its stated aim is to prevent sexual impropriety. So the question that needs to be asked is why are not men subject to similar constrictions?

Mr Nuttall does not go far enough: the entire religion, with all its ridiculous foibles, beliefs, constraints and downright subjugation and discrimination, has no place in Europe.
NJ 100% Right, stupid things.

I would be the first to agree that other cultures are very different from outs, and the way they operate does seem wrong to our Western eyes.

But what we should remember is that just because we see them as wrong, does not mean that other cultures share our views and values, or should have our views and values forced upon them against their will.

Rarely a day goes by on this section without someone whinging on about the 'Islamification of the West' and the abhorrent notion that Islam is trying to force its culture and way of life on us.

If it is abhorrent that they supposedly try and force us to live the way they do, why is it not equally abhorrent when we want to do the same to them?

Are you actually real, or a robot?
This is dog-whistle politics, at its very worst.

If Nuttall really is serious about this, then the demise of his Party will be sooner rather than later.
