She does not want to censor history. She believes that videos classed as '18' should not be shown to 11 and 12 year olds, and I agree with her.
The pupils were shown the horrifying video which was rated for over-18s
Ms Bi said the clip was inappropriate as it could distress the youngsters

What is your issue - she is correct!
It is not censoring. Children should not be shown material with an 18 certificate. And if the school wants to, they should seek written permission from the childrens' parents.
Watching people commit suicide is not something children should be watching, and she was right to highlight that. And the school were wrong to dismiss her.
I agreed with her stance re the showing of the video at the time, whether she should push for a full tribunal I'm not so sure.

I can only agree with the previous posts.

It would appear from the size of the offer made to this lady, that the school feel they were unreasonable in dismissing her, and she is perfectly within her rights to pursue them within the legal system.
But how did that caring stance transmogrify into religious discrimination? Perhaps there is more com pen sayshun in that.
Togo

"Suriyah also claims that following her dismissal, she discovered staff raised concerns over her connection to a Saltley School where she was Head Girl, which was implicated in the Trojan Horse scandal.

She added: 'I was made to feel like an extremist because I wanted to protect these children. I was studying at Oxford during the "Trojan Horse" affair."
Togo - //But how did that caring stance transmogrify into religious discrimination? Perhaps there is more com pen sayshun in that. //

Do you entertain the possibility that this lady is bringing the school to a tribunal because she feels she has been unfairly and illegally treated, and they should be made to account for themselves in a public forum, rather than paying her off to shut up and go away?
If memory serves this woman is not a teacher but was hired as a teaching assistant and had been at the school only a week, so having complained so soon into her new career was perhaps perceived as a trouble maker. Rights and wrongs aside, I'm not sure she should pursue her claim on the grounds of religious discrimination. The people who hired her would have been aware that she's Muslim and they would have been aware of her educational background - as head girl at a school implicated in the Trojan Horse scandal - before offering her the job. She's been offered £11,000. How much more will it take to satisfy her?
//Suriyah also claims//

Ahh I see, that makes it 100% so then. To quote another "lady". "She would say that wouldn't she". Snifff.
Naomi - as I have said to Togo - maybe it's not about the money?
I normally agree with you ymb, but I think she was within her rights on this one.
//rather than paying her off to shut up and go away? //

How many of the poor "victims" of discrimination actually shut up and go away I wonder? Answers on a microdot in longhand please.
Little bit worried about AOG. Hope he is OK.
She probably knows that a tribunal may not award her any more money than the school offered, assuming she wins, of course. She is clearly not an idiot.

andy-hughes, // Naomi - as I have said to Togo - maybe it's not about the money? //

An offer of £11,000 indicates that she's won her case, so if it's not about money what is she hoping to achieve?
Gromit, I've been wondering about AOG too, I share your sentiments.
hc4361, if she's on LinkedIn I don't much fancy her chances of being a popular candidate for any job she might apply for.
Gromit, I've been wondering where aog is too.
Aha! Speak of the Devil ... sorry aog. ;o)
