This is where I live. I had people I know on the tram including a friends husband who is now in hospital. There has also been fatalities. Very sad here xx

It's dreadful, I feel for all involved - what a shock.
I'm always on that tram and so are most people I know. Am dreading them releasing the names of the fatalities.....just innocent people going to work and school...
Good grief, how awful. It seems the emergency services reacted with speed & skill as always & let's hope the remaining 2 trapped people are alive & can be freed quickly. My thoughts are with all concerned.
Question Author
Yes the waiting for many will be dreadful.
Not good at all.

The driver has now been arrested apparently.
YMB....any idea of why he has been arrested ? The news isn't saying.
No it just came on sky as a newsflash.
I've been on that tram many a time and it goes way too fast around that bend
I am guessing that he was driving too fast, as the accident looks as if it happened on a curve, and/or drunkenness.
it sounds as though it took a tight curve in a tunnel too fast - does that sound plausible, Smow?
Thanks Snowball. Always good to have some insider knowledge !
well done Smow, you answered my question before I'd even asked it!
Yes indeed and if youre on that tram looking up to the road/bridge it often floods up there. I'm thinking possibly the heavy rain has washed some of the gravel onto the track, he's come round the corner full pelt and.. .
Five now confirmed dead : (
5 dead, so sad.
We've just had the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan visit at crash site. They believe there are more bodies still trapped inside tram, and as I said earlier the driver appears to have been speeding : (
Too early to speculate, the trams derailment may not have been the fault of the driver (brake failure for example) but the police arrest these days "just in case".
Possibly. But this tram isn't meant to go more than. 12 mph on that corner and from passenger statements he was going way way faster than that and that's been my experience too when I've been on it. I ironically said last time which was last week that I didn't know how it hadn't had an accident...
