From the link above ::::

"Unilever has raised the wholesale price of many household products, including PG Tips tea and Pot Noodles, because falls in the value of sterling have increased the cost of products made outside the UK"

But, as I understand it, Marmite is made in the UK, not "abroad". If that is the case, then why is the price going but by this huge amount ?

Marmite is made entirely from ingredients sourced in the UK. Even the vegetable extract and celery extract it contains comes from the UK and the UK has ample suppliers of the compound vitamin preparation it contains. I have need to visit the marmite factory on a regular basis and I'm familiar with the manufacturing process. Unilever failed to get Tesco to...

Morrisons = crooks

They could give Marmite away as far as I'm concerned, awful stuff!
Anyone else think the recent 'Marmite scandal' was an intentional plot between Tesco and Unilever? Tesco's boss used to be the head of Unilever!
I am certain the entire story was a 'plant' between the two of them to increase sales of Marmite. It was reported a day or so ago that the sales of Marmite had risen by 12% since the story.
I have the Morrisons own brand version of Marmite 'Yeast Extract' it is less than 1/2 the price of Marmite but tastes the same.
We commented only this week that a lot of Morrisons' prices have increased significantly. OH has been buying those big breakfast mushrooms, they've been 74p for months, now they're about 85p.
The one thing I will say in favour of Morrison's is that at the moment they have Gordon's gin on offer at £15 per litre!
Marmite mite have an arm it ......get it ..okay sorry
Morrisons are also the most expensive petrol in my area.

Don't know why as they were usually the cheapest but I suppose they have to pay for the refit somehow.
I've just done an emergency stock up on Marmite. A year's supply ...one jar |:-)
Be frugal, precious stuff!
local conditions perhaps, cassa

11 miles apart, 8p a litre difference. That's capitalism for you.

Good grief AP do you eat it every day or something??

No, its not capitalism, its sharp practise. Here is Swansea, there is intense competition between all the many fuel outlets, so we are not subject to the same kind of thing.

We can defeat this sharp practise, by voting with our feet.
BAKERS DOZEN

/// I read somewhere it is because the ingredients are sourced from overseas and therefore are costing more. ///

I was always under the impression that Marmite was made from the brewery industry's waste, hence the fact it is made in Burton on Trent, the home of brewery in the UK.
Marmite has more than one ingredient.

AOG....I think that is Bovril ::::

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bovril

Easy mistake to make, as they are both so similar !
Bovril is made from beef extract, not yeast
re marmite i'm in the hate camp but i imagine a jar lasts for a long time so those that love it would probably pay double
Bovril is a drink made from leftover cows.
Marmite is a spread made from leftover yeast.

Almost impossible to mistake them - but you did.
^ that almost makes marmite sound palatable
Question Author
Gromit....uncalled for !

They look and taste similar....why have a go at AOG for making a quite simple and understandable mistake ?
Mikey, tty to get a grip.
