Loose Women - An Apology To Ched Evans

Following comments on Loose Women by Gloria Hunniford about Ched Evans, ITV have issued an apology - and Ms. Hunniford is reported to be incandescent with rage, although ITV deny this.

Personally, I think ITV were wrong to apologise - what does anyone else think?

She should have known better.

As has been said above it will be interesting to see what she does should be be served with a writ since looking at the clip she is on very shaky ground.

I think you’ll find it works the other way around. She’s making the accusation and therefore the onus is upon her to prove it’s validity. You know how the law works. Innocent until proven guilty - and all that. She was out of order.

She isn't. She is giving an opinion there- she doesn't have to prove it. If he wanted to sue her for slander- he would have to prove she was lying.

She can broadcast opinions. That's her job. She just can't misrepresent facts- which is where she went wrong. What would she have to prove? That she wouldn't send her grandchildren to him?

Her opinion does not matter, right or wrong. The Evans family are not bothered about her opinion and are getting legal about that.
They are objecting to falsehoods that she used before expressing her opinion.
In a legal case you must not misrepresent the facts. If you do, you can be sued.

Pixie, she is, in effect, saying that he can't be trusted not to lead children astray, and broadcasting derogatory opinions about people without justification is defamation of character. Not nice.

I disagree that it's fair. As I said, many who fallen foul of stupid and, in retrospect, regrettable moments, could, if they're honest, very easily be tarred with the Gloria Hunniford's wide-sweeping brush.
