Bad taste but I'm unsurprised. The kids are away from home for the first time, more or less free to do as they wish, and typically they go overboard. It's the age group and the freedom, it seems to equate to a lack of thoughtfulness when it comes to social activities.
Agreed divebuddy, and it was bad taste.

I do quite like some bad taste, but not at the expense of living teenagers who have been through such an experience so recently.
I haven't forgiven anything, Ellipsis, but I am having to take on trust the word of a journalist, and a student one at that. As divebuddy points out, he could have made his case a lot clearer with a better photo.

I think the Students would not have apologised but robustly denied any connection re the fake false limbs had they not existed.

Even The Tab where the photo started out has removed all mention of them.

Are they allowed to push the boundaries? Yes.

Equally the young people recently injured are entitled to feel upset.

Well, we shall obviously never know why the students have apologised but the Students Union/University deny a link - for someone to have manufactured the idea of stuffed jeans legs and so on , seems bizarre.

Stranger things happen I suppose.

I actually doubt real harm was intended, rather just lack of thought.

it wasn't actually intended for the eyes and ears of those who'd been in the crash, let alone meant as an insult to them, it was just a local pub crawl which an eagle-eyed reporter told the world about. Personally, I'm inclined to let students get on with their lives. My own university career was not entirely devoid of bad taste, but fortunately Twitter didn't exist then.
Bad taste yes. Nice to see education is not being wasted, some parents must feel really proud of their offspring.

That old joke improves with age.

/// a bit too soon, I think. In 10 years, maybe, when it's become history. ///

What has the passage of time got to do with it?

It may become 'history' to the rest of us, but it won't for the unfortunate amputees, who will have to live with their injuries for the rest of their lives.
