This report appears to clear the way for further expansion at Heathrow.

Who wants to bet that after many years of delay, Mrs May finally gives her approval ?

TTT....just canvassing the opinions of our august Members !
ok great build it and build the one at Gatwick too.
With us leaving the EU and the £ at a record low making overseas travel more expensive I can't see a point in expanding airports. Better closing them down and saving some cash!
^Another regular little ray of sunshine! :o)

There already are. London hotels are doing a thriving trade and the shops are buzzing - but the natives aren't starving! The end of the world really isn't nigh, Eddie!!
someone give eddie another punnet, PMSL, ok the pound is a bit low now, but hey, eddie it can get stronger you know! The FTSE is flying high!
I never understood why Stansted wasn't seriously considered. However it will be good to get the go ahead for any location (other, possibly, than Boris's daft idea of a new airport in the Thames), as the whole thing has dragged on for far too long.

BTW, Mikey, I thought of you when I posted this ;-)

Thanks Chris !
Naomi, give Eddie some credit,he is quite a grounded sort of chap! o:)
Eddie, the airport is for foreigners rushing here to buy British goods cheaply. London and Bicester Village between them will be the bargain basement of Europe. (They'll be able to get scientists and financiers cheap too.) Mind you, I can remember when £1 dropped to $1 under Maggie...
.....and also to $2+ in the early 80s jno
Why should we particularly care whether it is within EU pollution laws or not? By the time the first sod is turned we'll be long gone from the EU. If the pollution law is among those subsumed into UK law it can be swiftly ditched if it doesn't suit us. Whether the law is good or bad is not the issue. The point is that it would be under the control of the UK Parliament.
NJ - exactly. Nail hit on head !!

I can't see that pollution doesn't matter when we become parted from the EU. If its polluting, its polluting....what has the EU got to do with it ?

But the report says that isn't going to break any pollution laws. Every report that has come out of this affair, for many years, says that Heathrow is the proper place for expansion.

I am not making an case for it either way, but its plain to see that some expansion is needed.

One thing for certain though....its highly unlikely that we will see a Boris Airport, in the Thames estuary !
Pollution matters mikey, the EU does not, we can make our own rules, geddit?
Question Author
TTT....but what does that mean ? Now that we are leaving the EU, we can just pollute as much as we like ? Pollution recognises no geographical borders.
Anyway, its likely that many of the EU laws will be incorporated into British law.

But pollution isn't the point...the report said that expansion at Heathrow wasn't a problem. The EU doesn't come into it.

This is going to be a straight choice between Gatwick and Heathrow.
That's what you remainiacs fail to grasp mikey. We don't care what the rules are, we want to make them ourselves and if the EU happen to coincide fine. No I am not advocating no rules on pollution as you well know.
Question Author
TTT....perhaps I am not making myself clear. Its likely that the acceptable level of pollution will be broadly the same, for the EU and for us, post BREXIT.

But this isn't about what the EU does, unless you expect the pollution levels to be LOWER in our laws, than at present with the EU law. If that is the case, then I expect Mrs May to announce that the expansion at Heathrow will not go ahead.
