Alcohol is highly addictive as well (as I know), its got to be the number one drug in the UK, yet not everyone who uses alcohol go on to become alcoholics. Addiction is more than just ingesting a substance.

My accountant used to say he was psychologically addicted to alcohol. When he stopped drinking he never had any withdrawal symptoms. His alcohol cravings came when he was sad and wanted to drown his sorrows.

Ive only ever taken heroin once but had no desire to repeat the experience. I sniffed glue/solvents a few times in my youth but never became addicted. I smoked weed when I was young but never became addicted. I had my first alcoholic drink as a young teenager and that was a different story, have struggled ever since with alcohol problems.

I only know people hopelessly addicted.... all saying they could kick it but erm wont this week

one neighbour was a badly controlled schizophrenic who was worse controlled when he stopped his medication and substituted nose candy.
