Ridiculous. Touching up a woman might be a crime but it sure isn't a hate crime. Anyway, there should be no such things as hate crimes. A crime is a crime, full stop.
Well to me misogyny is a frame of mind and only becomes a crime when someone acts on it - which would surely be covered by existing laws already.

Maybe I'm not reading it right as it's late.
Mamyalynne - “... Well to me misogyny is a frame of mind and only becomes a crime when someone acts on it - which would surely be covered by existing laws already...”

That is my understanding too. Well said.

It is absurd to suggest that 'being a misogynist' could be categorised as a crime. It is also quite a frightening prospect; the quintessential Orwellian 'thought crime'.

There are many misogynists out there. I have met a few in my time. I don't agree with them and I would vigorously argue that they are wrong. I would also defend their right to hold such views. But their belief that women are inherently inferior to men should never be criminally actionable unless they themselves (or by proxy) perform some act based upon their belief. At which point existing laws should kick in and they can be punished accordingly.

I find it deeply troubling when certain groups talk about making opinions a crime. In fact, it's quite terrifying when you think about it. It has become almost a cliché to reference George Orwell's book, Nineteen Eighty-Four, when discussing such matters. It shouldn't be. The political world described in Orwell's book is a stark warning. It is one that is being slowly but surely emulated as we in the 'west' collectively march towards totalitarianism.
Can't argue with that, Birdie.
I agree with Jack here. If an offence has been done, than I don't think we need another definition or new law.

This thinking will die a quick death methinks.
Some might see it as the under employed looking to fill their day with something not involving any real work while keeping their organisation 'relevant'.
More box ticking.
Like Mamy says...it's a state of mind and no amount of laws can change how someone thinks.

Some might hate me for saying this but I agree with the comments made so far :)
Surely this will make Islam illegal?
A religion that teaches that women are inferior to men?
Question Author
Oh no,sp1814 will not be happy Eddie :(
A state of mind along with ageism etc.

EDDIE, "Surely this will make Islam illegal?
A religion that teaches that women are inferior to men?"

and Christianity and most other religions I dare say.
Yeah but Christianity has mainly moved on.
I think that the description of "hate crime" should be abolished. Not that many "love crimes" going on. Either something is wrong or it is not. Hate doesn't effect that.

From the link:-

'Already women are ringing through to the police saying: ‘I want this to be recorded as a misogynistic hate crime’.

I don't think Islamic women are going to be the ones ringing up somehow..

Ratter is correct.I've been to Hate Crime meetings with the police and where women are concerned the perpetrators were not Muslims.

Most Domestic Abuse perpetrators were White British too.
Anglican Christianity allows Female vicars and Bishops. A lot further forward than Islam where women are not even allowed to sit with men in the Mosque.
Islamic women will not be ringing up as they are too scared of their men folk to do it. If that is not 'hate crime' I do not know what is!
ag...could it be just that white women are more likely to report it?
What is the opposite of Mysogyny ? That must be a hate crime as well?
Question Author
Ummm > could it be just that white women are more likely to report it?

Of course,so introducing mysogyny as a hate crime statistic is not likely to help matters for those Islamic women who are also victims.
