That's US celeb level sueing. Unsure I'm really surprised. If you're going to be outraged make it massively so.

Difficult to tell if the legal action is justified without seeing the article.
It was to be expected. Michelle Obama did the same. :P
well that's some call, girl.......go for it.
Mrs Trump, a prostitute ? ( sorry "sex worker" )

I can't possibly believe that !
It says 'escort'

Not all escorts do the 'extras'
How did she get to the figure of $150 million? Surely any sane judge will throw it out of court.
Can you even choose the amount of money you get paid if your claim is upheld?
In the states you can.
ummmm is right. Some escorts are just that. To accompany a man to an important dinner or whatever. then go home afterwards. Some escorts in that context are happily married women and do it to make a good living, always with their husbands agreement.
It's easy Jo. You think of a reasonable figure and then multiply by ten million in case the final judgement trims it down a bit.
So this is how you play 'Top Trumps'?
The Daily Mail's retraction is hilarious in its own right -- "Just to be clear, we in no way intended to imply that anything we print is actually true"...

In the States, the Gawker News Group was recently closed down after the wrestler Hulk Hogan successfully sued them. He got $115 million compensatory damages and $25 million punative damages. That effectively bankrupted the company and it went out of business.

The Mail could literally be fighting for its life.
Why isn't she suing the originator of the story? Is she afraid he might get some proof in Slovenia.
I wondered that too, danny.

Oh dear.
Turns out Hogans lawyer is Mrs Trumps attorney.

// And who's representing the wife of the Republican nominee for U.S. President, in her Mail Media lawsuit? None other than Charles Harder, the same attorney who represented Hulk Hogan in the case against Gawker. That case was backed by pro-Trump VC Peter Thiel, who recently backed a new litigation financing startup. Hogan won that case, which involved Gawker publishing his sex tape. Hogan's landmark victory bankrupted Gawker Media with a $140 million verdict, and Univision later bought pretty much everything except the cursed Gawker.com. //
nobody in their right mind would sue a blogger. Bloggers have no money, and are neither widely read nor widely believed. But once a big international media group like the Mail publishes the story, this gives it credence and respectability.

If the story dented Trump's chances of reaching the presidency (not that he doesn't do this himself day and night), the damage would amunt to vastly more than $150m.

Danny, Ummmm,
There is no point suing someone with no money, especially if the litigation is to a gold mining exercise.

Apparently, there is a new business model in the US where investors can finance a legal case, and then take a cut of the damages awarded. I think we are seeing that happening in this case.

// Until the news broke that tech billionaire Peter Thiel was funding former pro wrestler Hulk Hogan's suit against (now-defunct) gossip blog Gawker for outing him as gay nearly a decade ago, most people were unaware that third parties — traditionally, hedge funds — could bankroll a lawsuit against a person or business

As a result, start-ups in the field of litigation-finance investment have gained prominence, with a simple pitch to investors: Put up as little as $5,000 to fund lawsuits, and make money. //

The Mail is in serious trouble.
