FRENCH Prime Minister Manuel Valls says the country is to shut down certain mosques, cut foreign funding and police the content delivered in sermons in a massive crackdown on Islamic fundamentalism.

Meanwhile, former French president Nicolas Sarkozy has demanded every person suspected of being involved in terrorism be placed under house arrest.

And he said accessing jihadi websites should be made a crime similar to that of paedophiles who view and distribute content online.

France is also considering legislation that will allow it to remove and expel dual national citizens.

Perhaps curtailing the building of more Mosques is a security issue. The existing ones would seem to have become a hotbed of radical indoctrination and terrorist radicalisation which mean valuable resources are tied up monitoring what is going on. Why would the French, or indeed any Country that faces this conundrum encourage even more of the same...

Dodging the question because you don't have an answer....again, AOG.

/// I don't - can you explain please? ///

Itching for another round of 'word tennis' are you?

I thrashed you yesterday, so forgive me if I don't join you today, as I would hate for you to develop some kind of inferiority complex. //

It was a simple question - answer or not as you choose.

As to the rest of your post, I have no idea what you are talking about!
## Meanwhile, former French president Nicolas Sarkozy has demanded every person suspected of being involved in terrorism be placed under house arrest. ##

I would have thought, that goes without saying!!

Not really.

Confining someone for what you think they may have done only belongs in a fascist dictatorship.
Why build places of worship when there is a housing shortage?

Talbot - //Why build places of worship when there is a housing shortage? //

Because the two are mutually exclusive.

/// There's a new one near me but that was JehWit so perhaps doesn't count ///

How astute of you, seeing that the building of new Mosques is under discussion.
Keep the "Rogue" Mosques open and the secret services can monitor hate preachers and potential terrorists.

Close then then they splinter off, go underground and many homes, garages, halls then become rogue breeding grounds as many then become impromptu hate preachers each teaching their groups different slants on Islam which then become impossible to keep an eye on them.

This will just spell disaster.
It may be necessary, or at least worth doing from a PR point of view, trt, so long as it doesn't become another Guantanamo Bay where they are held for years and years pending a trial or release
You and your platitudes Mr Hughes
ff was replying to your 12:19 post AOG, where YOU were talking about churches.
Talbot - //You and your platitudes Mr Hughes //

I fail to see what is platitudinous in my response, but let's not get side-tracked.

A couple of people have raised the notion that mosque building should be curtailed or ceased.

I have asked why, and am so far without a reasonable answer.
Perhaps curtailing the building of more Mosques is a security issue. The existing ones would seem to have become a hotbed of radical indoctrination and terrorist radicalisation which mean valuable resources are tied up monitoring what is going on. Why would the French, or indeed any Country that faces this conundrum encourage even more of the same problem. I would think that "new Mosques are in need of building out in the Middle East, seeing as how they have been blowing them up at a fair old rate of knots of late. Muslim funds may be better concentrated out there for the followers of Islam, or are all Muslims intent on moving into Europe?
Meanwhile, former French president Nicolas Sarkozy has demanded every person suspected of being involved in terrorism be placed under house arrest.> can any of you know it alls argue with this?
//How astute of you, seeing that the building of new Mosques is under discussion.

If you are going to use sarcasm it might be worth checking you have read the thread properly.

Maybe you need to read it again. You said about churches: "Haven't seen any new one's (sic) being built recently. Most of our churches were built hundreds if not thousands of years ago, seeing that this is a Christian country...". So I said I had seen a church being built. Of course new churches are built

Not sure about being a 'know it all' - but yes, I can certainly argue.

Under the premise of 'innocent until proven guilty', free societies do not as a rule, go around locking people in their homes on the basis of something they might or might not have done,

That's my argument against the proposal.
jordyboy. I can. Have you contemplated how keeping hundreds, possibly thousands, of terror suspects under house arrest would work?

Seems like Sunni Muslims don't want any more Mosques, well Shia ones at least.

AOG, Shia and Sunni are separate factions, here have a read:
http://islam.about.com/cs/divisions/f/shia_sunni.htm
Three participants in this debate have inferred or stated that they think that no more mosques should be built - one has confirmed that the reason is obvious.

It is not obvious to me, so would any one, or all of you, care to explain why you support the curtailment of mosque construction?
