"Each of the migrants had paid £6,000 for the crossing - and Stribling and Stilwell were expecting to pocket £2,000 each from the deal." - not entirely philanthropic are they!

There was more than 100K paid and they only got 2K each. Where did the rest go, I wonder?
Expenses and overheads??

Probably, the boat wouldn't have been cheap.
What you should be asking, why wasn't the 18 Albanian illegal immigrants jailed as well?
Question Author
So they were altruistic when they hardly made any profit from it.
//What you should be asking, why wasn't the 18 Albanian illegal immigrants jailed as well?//

they were subject to the full force of the uk immigration service - they were patted on the head and given a free train ticket to east croydon.
That is not all on the same day another was charged:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3714288/Pair-jailed-people-smuggling-Dymchurch-Kent.html

/// The sentencing came on the same day that a British sailor was jailed for four years and nine months for smuggling 17 immigrants into a south coast marina. ///

/// Judge Anthony said the Albanians were transported in cramped conditions, adding: 'Quite apart from the illegality, they are plainly at risk of their health and safety.' ///

Who cares, they are not forced to take these sea trips, in fact they pay for the privilege.

Send them all back across the channel, Britain is full.

Hope they weren't patted too hard, else they would be claiming legal aid to take the country to court for damages.
The rest of the 100k went on in-house catering

Treasonous profiteers, throw away the key.
Just four years, presumably out in two ? Should be at least double that.
And as for the immigrants, if they weren't send back, then, seriously, why not ?

mike ashley needs them.
Only if they had offered free passage, which they manifestly didn't.
Agree with baldric.
Me too.
sandyRoe's wooden spoon is still in working order. ;o)

Not so, Naomi. These men seem to me to be rogues with hearts of gold. And in their golden hearts glows the Englishman's love of freedom and a knowledge that it isn't divisible. They might feel themselves less free while just a few miles away others long to share the liberty that all here enjoy.
:o)
Don't think sandyroe would use a " wooden spoon" naomi
